Hatin my Base

Well, Looking for some input\\ideas\\painting advice with this...

I originally was shooting for a cracked earth type thing in the desert... I tried painting it up, and either did poorly or got too fed up. So now I tried some dry brushing on the cracked earth.
I think the base might be too imposing for a small\\regular type mini. I wanted the mage to look like he just made the cracked earth, so the dry brushing is in a \"explosion type design\" coming from the mages position...

But, I\'m unsure how it looks... I was thinking maybe just covering the cracked earth in fine sand, or maybe putting grass between the cracks? Anyways...

And I intend on spraying the tuna can he\'s on with black primer, and dull coting it.

The base does seem too large for the mini in question.

The cracked earth effect is rather cool and I love the painting on it. It really looks like \'power\' is radiating from the wizard.

The effect seems to fall appart at the non-cracked edges. It seems to be because it\'s a different style of ground. The cracked area seems out of place. I think it would look better if the entire base was made of smooth stone, with an arc of cracked stone of the same material raditation out of the wizard. You have the arc already but would need the rest of the base to look like the same stone, but uncracked.

Yeah now that you point it, it does look pretty out of place.... I\'m not sure how I could blend it in other than getting rid of the sand and replacing it with \"that cracked earth rock stuff\" I made.

and althoough my idea was to make that eminating power\\explosion from the mage, I really am not attached to the idea, I just want the base to look quality. for a first timer ;)

I live near UConn campus Storrs, CT.

BUT, I am shortly moving to Irvine CA...

AND... YES! that is the Heroquest Elf... and my 2nd attempt at a miniature is already in progress... it is the Femir (or was it Fimir)... the big green axe wielding club tailed heroquest thingy. He\'ll be my first attempt at metalics.

maybe if the edges of the cracked Earth were the same texture, but just cracked rather than completely broken off...

Am I making sense? :s lol

I do like the painting of the ground though - it looks cool - Although myabe a bit too smooth.

Have a look at some of the other models on here with cracked Earth bases (Altho the only one I know the link to is mine - Nork Deddog in the WIP thread)

I went to UConn for my freshman year. They make a mean pumpkin ice cream at the creamery there....

I grew up down by Mohegan Sun in Montville :)

I have to say I agree that the other type of dirt causes problems in the base.

If you\'re going to put grass between the cracks, make sure it\'s bent forward like it\'s been blown over from the wizard...

I think it looks cool, but I would really avoid grass in the cracks. If the wizard has JUST cracked it with magic, would grass have time to grow out of it?
