I\'m not familiar with the techniques that you have used for this one but I must say the metallics do have a really nice shine to them. The base looks really nice aswell.

rackham minis are roughly 30mm mate.
had to change the pics as photo bucket was making them realy dark.
hope these are a bit better.
absoloute bitch to photograph this one, if i over expose the light colours become a total glare spot, with it set as standard, photobucket darkens it something cronic.
i hate technology.

i don\'t have a link skeeve, i asked automaton how he does his metals via pm.
it is what the french call a juice, the paint is put on the brush (quite thin) and then almost all of it is wiped off. this allows the paint to dry almost straight away, stopping it from pooling or leaving tide marks.
with the metals i used inks as they act like filters allowing you to control how much the light reflects and were from as well as what colours are reflected.
here are some other pics i have taken, a little more exposure with just auto levels used.

Great work as normal Chris. I love the bases you do to. They always seam to make the mini look larger that what they are due to the fine detail you add to the base. Great stuff!

metallics are always a bitch on photography have you tried adjusting the filter on photoshop sometimes helps green filter shows metallics quite well just tones down the reflective glare a touch ...discovered it by accident a few weeks ago...

filter ??? me and photoshop have a hate hate relationship, i hate it and it\'s hates me not knowing how to use it properly lol
@funnymouth, the washes were realy thin glazes of ink with the brush wiped almost clean. it\'s almost like drybrushing.
the metal is so shiny because of the metal medium mixed in and then re highlighted once the shading is done. i basicly used automatons advice and then combined what i know about jakobs techniques with what some of the french and spanish do.
@demonherald, the grass is firstly wild grass from ec scenics, i think antenocitie also sells it. just stuck down with pva into small clumps with normal static grass around it. when dry i wash it with a drab olive green and then a drab olive green/earth mix. when dry i dry brush it with khaki being very rough so that all the loose grass comes out. i then go through it with some tweezers pulling out bits here and there that look too symetrical and thus not natural.
the reeds were from my front door matt which is slowly dying and in need of replacement.
the little plants/creepers are roots from weeds and the old gnarled tree is a root from a plant, just painted with various washes, altho it has come out realy dark in this pic (goddamnit)
weathering powders were also used to help the groundwork look more natural as paint can only do so much.

heh heh lol I have the same relationship with photoshop..... basically if you click the image tag and go to adjustments as you would for leels..look down the list you will see one called photofilter....select the colour of the filter and it will show you how it looks in the preview.....
I don\'t use it a lot only really when there is a problem like metallic reflection where it helps or the light is strange as it often is at the moment as I\'m relying on sunlight so 3 days of photographing a year at the moment
