Having fun with photo-realistic bases

Just a real quick post, I'm so tired I can't think straight. I started playing around with a couple of ideas and hit on this. Run some stuff through my editing software effects filter, resize to the metric equivalent that I need (in this case 50mm) and print. If I had some genuine 50mm rounds, I'd put them on that but I just discovered the caps on my Tamiya spray primer (my dwindling stock that is) just happen to be 50mm. So I cut one to size and stuck my print outs on top of it.

Now I need to get better pics - these were just quick ones to see if there was potential. I think there might be.

I had to laugh at this last one, it unexpectedly printed out a metallic gold. It sorta looks like a gold pie tin.

Anyway, when I go to use these for real, I'll secure them a little better to the black base so they aren't just sitting there with an obvious line around the rim. Plus, the one that looks like it has grass on it, I just need to do a bit more tweaking and it will really look 3D.

But I'll get better pics of them tomorrow. I was just having fun with them and wanted to share - now I'm going to crash and burn.

love the pie tin!! wile these will look good in photos, they probably won't look so good with the more complicated stuff irl as shadows etc would look wrong. simple things like flat flooring etc would be ok though

I think they would look ok in photographs, or as freak said just plain flooring like tiles, carpet or wood....anything else which would have significant texture would look obviously out of place in real life.

Exacty! These are intended for photos only - not real life. I just came up with the idea because I was in a pinch for a 50mm base for a contest photo. But real life stuff, I'm going to go ahead and make the real thing you know?

But I think they would be useful for stuff like Galleries, Photo Contests, Ebay Auctions where you're just selling the mini with a plain base and not a fancy one (that needs to be specified in the auctions however) you know stuff like that.

It's basically a prop for photos. For real life, you need to create the bases the old fashioned way. lol!

I also printed these out on high gloss photo paper - that's all I've got right now - but the stone one and the grass would look better on matte paper.
