I am starting to paint minis separately ie: head, body, arms and I am wondering what to use to hold them? Should I pin them or what? Thanks in advance.

General kind of opinion seems to be pinning them onto something larger to hold on to, or siton a bench.

Im one of the glue it all together, or most of it, then paint it, but Im lazy.

I have seen small drill bits used if youronly working on one mini at a time, so drill them halfway home, then hold that, or stick the drill bit into a cork/something similar.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

i know some peopel that paint plastic still on the sprue, glue parts too toothpicks, and even hold parts big enough in their fingers.

Depending on how complex the mini/model is it is sometimes easier to paint certain parts before assembly, one of the things to bare in mind though is how these parts will join together i.e. arms joining at the edges of arm rings or armour as opposed to joining at teh elbow etc so that any joins can be hidden.

doing this will also entail that you spend a lot of time ensuring that the join is good and that there will be no gap once it is all assembled after painting.

Even if the model is not intended for gaming I would still pin it to add strength to the joins, if you then leave the pin lengths long you can but them into the end of a cork whilst you paint them and cut them to length later.

Lately I\'ve been gluing things to bits of the plastic sprue. You glue the sprue to the area that will be glued to the rest of the model. Could use paper clips, wire, toothpicks, old pencils and pens, whatever you have lying around.

Even if the model is not intended for gaming I would still pin it to add strength to the joins, if you then leave the pin lengths long you can but them into the end of a cork whilst you paint them and cut them to length later.

You never know when some random animal tail will knock it over or some rug rat will send your little soldiers on an adventure of flight...or worse.

I have been doing something similar, as I habve been putting a bit of wire in the area to be glued then setting (not gluing) is in a small black of wood. I can bend the wire to the position I need and if I press on it just a bit it won\'t come out.
