Heath Ledger found dead today

Not a huge fan but still very unhappy that he died. 29 is too young to die some random death.

With all this talk about ODing, is that confirmed? Last I read they merely said he\'d been found dead in bed, with sleeping pills on hand. That doesn\'t = overdose.

I guess this type of death saddens me more because right now both of my 17 year old brother and sister have gotten into serious trouble with drugs. 17 and they are already taking part in that world.
Not meth I hope?

Why can\'t people appreciate the life they have without taking drugs.

What, other than the legalised or prescription ones? What a load of bollocks. If you\'ve never taken (illegal) drugs, you will never know what you\'re talking about....

I feel far more empathy when I hear about people like Mark Witherall who was kicked to death for simply trying to defend his own home...

I was sorry to read about this this morning on the Beeb\'s website. I almost couldn\'t believe the headline when I first saw it (I get the BBC news emails, and it was one of the top stories). Quite a shock.

Re the drugs: Maybe the BBC are a bit more circumspect with their phrasing than Yahoo. The article mentioned that presription drugs had been found, the possibility of an overdose was being investigated, there was no evidence of foul play and suicide hadn\'t been ruled out. What I took from that: the authorities didn\'t know themselves what had happened and when they did, they\'d let us know.

From the sound of it, he didn\'t seem like the kind of person to commit suicide, although you can never be 100% sure. Overdose? As previously mentioned, it can be all too easy to unknowingly OD on any drug. Drug abuse- yeah, it does happen. Did it happen here, tho? Reckon I\'ll reserve judgement until I get more information, and in the meantime my feelings are with his family and friends.

That is truly sickening, that poor man.....but all very epidemic of our societies addiction to Celebrity....and how every thing they do in life (or in this case death) overshadows regular folks lifes to the point where they are almost non-existant.

But, all that crap said, I\'m still have empathy for the tragedy of both.

He made a mistake, and paid the ultimate price for it.

I feel for his daughter that no longer has a daddy.

Instead of me posting a set of twenty nested-quotes, lets just say I agree with Iono as well.

Its very easy for someone to accidently misjudge how much alcohal they may have had, and then take a few sleeping pills to get to sleep quickly.

I know someone who has had a double-heartache, and was told if he didn\'t quick smoking and drinking he\'d be dead in a year. The guy drinks about two cases of beer every day, smokes pot and cigarettes like a chimney, and occasionally SHOOTS HEROINE!

His heart attack was five years ago, and he\'s as healthy as an ox (appears so, at least).

I also know a girl who went to a college party and had five drinks - she never drank before, EVER. She died of alchohal poisoning.

You never EVER know how much will be too much, and people make that mistake all the time. :(

I lost a female friend a few months back, who died pretty much the same way he did, and I can tell you I\'m pretty damn sure she didn\'t do it on purpose.

She just made a very stupid, fatal mistake.

He didnt die becouse of illegal drugs people!

They simply found sleeping pills next to him and it is a well know fact for anyone who was following his career that since he took the role of Joker he start suffering from insomnia and in one interview he said that he was taking a lot of prescripted sleeping pills but the effects werent really enough to help him.
The whole roumor about ilegal drug overdose is just the effect of press going after cheap drama, especially since the original article form New York Times put the record straight. There wasnt any talk of illegal drugs, the only real considered possibilieties where either suicide(that has been officialy denied today) or simply accidental sleeping pills overdose. Autopsy was scheduled for today. Some people say it is incredibly ironic and cruel that he died becouse of what is appearing as the best role of his career. Such a waste. I guess that now the credits roll for the Dark Knight will be extended with ,,dedicated to Heath Ledfer 1979-2008,,. You hear famous and liked people die all the time but this time its just feels a bit diffrent. It was a total schock for everyone. You read film related websites and magazines all the time and there wasnt a week without some news about Heath and suddenly You see the news about his death. He had such a great career before him. Critics have even compered him to young Marlon Brando after the ,,brokeback mountain,,. When i read the news about his death i immedietly star thinking about Nolan and Bale and how the recieve the call about his death, that must have been like a punch to the face. Some people even hoped that this was simply another hardcore part of the famous dark knight promotional campaing and that the next day he will be back saying ,,why so serious,,?

When famous people die, autopsies are usually inconclusive..... because their anatomies are different from regular people.

I think even Kurt Cobain\'s autospy was inconclusive....he may have drown in a vat of melted marshmellows before he blew his head out.

I think the point he was making is that some people seem to be reacting like he was using illegal drugs and that\'s what caused his death.

These sorts of threads disgust me for this very reason.

When this thread first cropped up, I thought, \"WTF is Heath Ledger?\" Oh, so he\'s an actor. I now read on, and see sympathy for his daughter. Sorry, but I don\'t feel for her. She has a future, the AIDS-orphaned kids here have not. Many more of them in far worse circumstances.

Celebrities and their progeny... Sorry if I go over the deep-end, but this strikes a very personal nerve with me.

@Modderrhu:

I don\'t get the reasoning. So I should not sympathise with his daughter or feel sad for his death because there are sader stories to be told?

So I shouldn\'t feel slightly sad about Rackhams demise because people die from Aids? So I shouldn\'t feel sad that I ran over a dog because the holocaust happened?

I get the celebrities thing. But honestly I\'m not into that.. I don\'t read gossip I don\'t follow who\'s dating who etc. I hardly knwe his background at all. I feel sad because of this story and because he had touched a nerve in me with his performances. I\'m sad to see him go.

I\'m not saying you have to care yourself though.

Just had a little cry....I obviously didn\'t know the guy and I\'ve never cried about anyone \'famous\' dying since Diana. It just hit a nerve and I feel so terribly sad :( However he died, its a tragic, tragic end to his life. My thoughts go out to his family.

I\'m going to play \'Golden Years\' by Bowie...I loved Heath dancing to that in A Knight\'s Tale

So the type of drug I use to overdose be it accidentally or deliberately makes a difference. I see.

So Sid Vicious od\'s on Heroine = bad
Jimi Hendrix od\'s on sleeping pills = good

By that logic you could say Kurt Cobain had a small accident with a shotgun.

Well, it wasn\'t my point, I was just giving you my opinion on the post you asked about.

I don\'t think it was meant to say OD\'ing on legal meds is any better than illegal drugs. I think it was a reaction to some people seeming to infer that Heath Ledger had paid the ulimate price for the what seems the all too common case of celebrities seeming to throwing their talent and life away on a constant binge of alcohol and illegal drugs.

Of course, we always hear about the rehab cases but there are far many more actors, musicians and others who seem to stay out of the limelight in such a way.

I think that\'s all that I\'m going to write on this, it\'s meandering away from the point of the thread.

Yep, that scene is so cool in that movie! So odd and so well done.

He was instantly likable in any movies I ever saw him in.

No, I\'m expressing a disgust that there\'s a huge public sentiment for someone who is a nobody except for her late father\'s celebrity status. She is more fortunate than most of the children I know. Having done volunteer work in a home for abandoned babies, it is, like I said, it\'s a personal thing for me.

Ok, that\'s just being ridiculous.

To be honest, I\'d never seen his name before reading it here, so my detachment is somewhat stronger than yours. My annoyance is not that people are feeling a sadness at his passing, or that they are expressing regret. Rather, my annoyance is that this tragedy has been amplified and embraced, whereas other tragedies are shunned simply because they\'re faceless. My annoyance is in the implication that a child\'s life is valued so much more because his/her father was a public icon.

Ok, I just don’t get it, after hearing more on the news....the housekeeper check on him around 1:00 and he was face down snoring.....then later when the two women checked again he wasn’t breathing, so instead of calling 911 right away they called one of the Olsen twins to see what to do?????????????????????

wondering if he could of been saved but for that delay?
