Heavily weathered Ork battlewagon

I've recently finished this model, which is my second practice piece at military modelling weathering techniques (i.e. lots of oil paints and pigments):

I would definitely be interested in getting your feedback and comments on the model so that I know what I need to work on in order to improve the quality of my painting.

As mentioned over at The Waaagh!, nice work Hasdrubal. With the release of the Forgeworld Masterclass book, the quality of the vehicle models across the board have really stepped up. Wish they could do something like that for figures...( :) ) I know, that's why we have CMoN!

The yellow and rust are very well done. I mentioned the purple post wrappings on the other forums so won't retread.

My only knit pic at this point would be the wheels and tracks. A very light and spotty drybrushing or sponging of boltgun on the outside edges would give it one more level of realism as even if they're rusted, if they move there will be rust scraped off to the bare metal where it makes contact with things like other tracks, the road, etc.

I really like the way you weathered the markings (from the working thread) it was simple and easy and the effect is spot on. I will probably loot this idea when I work on by other battelwagon (in storage at the moment).

Keep it up and look forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve next!

It's a beaut. Nice to see a range of rust tones.

Though would like to see some actual metal. The source of rust.

Some rusted trails could be groovy. Another layer of rust effects. That is, a source of rust, like a rivet, with a streak of rust tainted water leaking down from it.

@ Sukigod:
Thaks for the comments. That's interesting because I did some drybrushing of Boltgun Metal on the tracks and wheels too, as well as some serious (and quite good-looking IMHO) rusting on the wheels, which really added dimension to the model. Sadly, it all disappeared after the dust weathering. Reads like I overdid that one too, I'll be careful to make it lighter next time so that the previous layers show through.

@ Wyrmypops:
I decided against showing bare metal because, in real world, it's a matter of hours before bare metal starts to rust (see construction vehicle for instance). I agree some rust streaking from rivets would have been a nice addition, it's an effect that I find difficult to replicate, but that's what training is for!
