Hi all,

Im trying to get better at painting (arnt we all)

So far ive done about 100 10mm, 50 20mm and 20 28mm models.

Im happy with how my 10mm and 20mm turn out for the table simply as there are so many of them. I tend to do one base coat, one wash and a highlight and there good to go.

This method is not so good for 28mm's.

I would be grateful if you could have a quick look at these and tell me what you think and what areas to concentrate on first.

These are links to photobuckt albums

looks like you have very good brush control, so thats good. most of the articles are for 28mm minis, so i would start readin. i know, dumb advice, but it really is helpful. the first think you need to work on is pushing that contrast, everywhere. deeper shading, brighter highlights. personally, i would suggest starting with dark-lining to get the most initial bang for your buck.

i'd also say thin you paints a little more and build up more layers but slowly to get nice smooth graduations but have more contrast too. i'd maybe start with some controlled washes and then add some more highlights to make it pop more

its sloppy man. look at his eyebrow for example. its good for the table top tho.

the better it looks the longer it takes. keep that in mind.

Reading is good, but remember not to OD on doctrine, make it up yerself ^^ He's a cute little fella, I'd agree with funnymouth with the darklining, it's good for some seperation first to see where you're going to start the dark shading or lighting, thanks :)

What is this darklineing? Ive tried to search for it but my google-fu seems to be lacking today.

And thanks again for the comments and advice.

What is this darklineing? .
A technique for separating colours/areas with a darker version of the main body colour.
For example if you were painting a British Soldier from the Rourkes drift era (1879) the Tunic would be Scarlet, but around the folds where the belts go you'd darken the area to a dark red (red-purple ish) to give a faux shadowline.
Think of it as a thin version of the outlines you see in some cartoons or graphic novels.
This is a good example borrowed from the Coolminiornot store:
As you can see there are numerous areas sparated from each other by darker tones, thin lines. That's dark lining at one of its best examples.
