I would appreciate comments on where I can improve, and I know that there\'s a lot of room for improvement...

Welcome dude.
Not off to a bad start, but such a close up works better with another overall view too :)

Have you ONLY done the face?
Is it finished?
Is there a particular area or technique or effect you want help with...?

Help us, to help you. Help us, to help you.
Help US, to help, YOU. lol

I had only the face done: now I am working on other areas and will try to post another picture tomorrow. Unfortunately my photo gear is not particularly suited to taking pics of minis, so having some good one is proving challenging, but I hope that tomorrow I\'ll be luckier.

Sep 1st update

Okay, I have given a light wash to the face (yesterday looked like a whiter shade of pale..) and redone the eye, much better now.
I also have done all the metallic bits now, I am inclined to consider them finished: now I am left with all the gems, accessories and cloth bits.
Again, criticism and suggestions are welcome. I have been painting for a while, but I know that there are many areas where I can improve.

Hmm...
I DID give a few paragraphs on this a few minutes ago, but it doesn\'t seem to have added itself :p!

I\'m in a bit of hurry however, so I can\'t say it ALL again :(

I like the eye\'s pupil, and the metals look like they\'d also benefit from a wash.

Update Sep. 2nd - Finished

Okay, here is the final result. Please comment and criticize: on which areas should I try to focus more in order to improve my painting?

Looks a HELL of a lot better in those last photos :p

I\'d still (personally) give all the areas of armour a quick black wash though.

The blending on the cloak looks as though it could be smoother, but can\'t really see that well - I like the star pattern though.

Cool stuff :D

I\'ll try to take a better picture on a neutral background tomorrow: for the armour I tried to go for a very shiny finish, though it received a couple of black/brown washes during the intermediate stages. I might add another one but I guess it woudl tone down the shiny effect, wouldn\'t it?

On the contrary - washes and glazes tend to add a glossy finish (GW ones anyway)

I\'ll wait till you can get clearer photos to make any further comments though.

And here it is. I think this should look better if one wants to judge it. I am adding this also to my gallery.

well I just saw this post tody and WIP has become finished....

firstly welcome the road to frustration happiness sadness and a little excitement ending in madness begins..

looking at the model a couple of things I would try are..

instead of using inks for washes try watered down paints..
Black with a little purple heavily diluted with clean water approx 1 part paint to 6 parts clean water...works great on gold.
apply it less liberally than a normal wash i.e don\'t flood the area..concentrate on painting into the areas you want to shade apply several coats until you are hapy with the effecet....
For silver areas try Black with a little blue (regal works ok) and the same technique..

Also looking at the cape I like the idea behind the freehand starfield but a little more time and patience as well as practise will make a big difference.try and avoid the brush shapes you have at the moment and try just using the tip of the brush to create more concentrated spots...

also on the cloak it looks like you\'ve used ink to shade.. inks can be fine but they still need watering down a fair way and multiple very thin coats applied.. this will avoid giving the igh gloss finish which as a shade doesn\'t work too well as it catches the light in your shaded areas.

in all areas after the washes and shades are applied it is worth rehighlighting..
on the gold work in some mithril silver in the gold towards the edges of the scale plate to gie more definition..
on the blue rehighlight the folds and edges..
all these type of things will help show the shapes of a model...concentrating on picking out shapes can make a big difference...

may seem ike a lot there is probably more don\'t take this as negative overall it is a great job and a few little changes in technique as you develop will really help improve...

good luck.

Don\'t worry if I didn\'t want criticism I wouldn\'t have been asking for it, would I? :)
Just a couple of notes in order to explain the way I worked more precisely: I did use inks to shade the metals, but after those I applied about three more layers of highlights. Could it be that the picture doesn\'t show this properly or is there something else I should do differently?
On the other hand I did not use inks on the cape: normally I do not shade at all, but basecoat with the darkest colour and build highlight starting from it. Probably I should have been more bold in highlighting?

This is part of the problem photo\'s are harder to get right than painting..
I was thinking the cloak looked inked due to the shiny effect it as....

The cloak on that model is a bit of a bugger nice detail at the top but very flat everywhere else...The key is picking out the shapes of the folds etc to give the impression of the material....so yeah maybe going slightly lighter would help.

It could be the photo\'s for the gold netallics are a bitch for that.. maybe slightly darker colour in the shade would help..also doing the highlight colours smaller...may help...just at the moment the whole gold area looks a little uniform if you catch my drift...

Not sure that I like the position of the pupil. He looks to me like he\'s looking to his right and up. It because of only being to see one I, or so I\'m guessing. Just my two coppers thou.
