Hi all,

Just thought id drop a quick note to let people who were following my blog/thread on here know that im not in a ditch somewere ive just been quite bad with the depression and haven't had the drive to do much of anything. Nor the concentration. But things should be changing.

The other week I had one of those good news bad news situations. Turns out i've got sleep apnoea, which I could have had for some time now. The good news is there is a remedy a machine called a CPAP which keeps your airway open whilst you sleep.

Now why is this such good news. Well sleep apnoea had a lot of symptoms including feeling very sleepy during the day , poor memory and concentration , anxiety and depression. There are others, but those are the ones that have affected me the most, the annoying point is that depression and anxiety can cause poor mem. and fatigue. So fingers crossed this will help me in more ways than one It could be, and its a possibility, that the two illness have been feeding into each other. The depression has meant that I haven't done much in the way of going out so I haven't been burning calories i've eaten and then put on weight and the weight has made the sleep apnoea worse making me more depressed and repeat.

So lets see how this goes for a month. Though at the moment i've used the thing for half the night on the last two nights and ive felt more aware and awake than I have done for a while. Thanks for reading

Take care.

Glad it's been diagnosed :) Keeping fingers crossed the machine will dramatically help (I had to re-read as it did look like it was a CRAP machine :D )

A friend of mine has one of those machines to keep his airway open while he sleeps. Been on that for a couple years now, is mighty pleased with it. Had previously been choking, even while awake. Quite disturbing seeing your friend cough and choke himself into a faint, crash over and bash his head - it fair upset the game of Space Hulk we were playing.

Don't know what kinda mask you're going with, but I prefer the two strap model that only covers the bottom of your nose. And run the hose under your top blanket or sheet or the air will be a bit chilly coming in.

Glad it's been diagnosed. My dad has the same thing, and has said the CPAP was the best thing ever. Hope it's the same for you!

They stand to and let the women and children get off the ship while its sinking?
Nah probably nicked the life vests and pawned them for a couple of tinnies!

Count zero99uk as someone who snores badly I understand the drained feeling I used to get, but zero alcohol and weight loss has eased it, so good luck to finding a balance.

This. ^

Also, my machine has a water tray and heater to add humidity to the mask as I was getting nosebleeds from it drying me out. Colds are a bear as well as the month of March when I just cannot breathe.

About a month after I got mine, I realized that is was not only my snoring that kept my wife up. She's got a machine of her own now as well.
Don't leave home without it.

Weight loss helps. Course I just found out I need surgery on my back, but to fix that I need to loose weight. The ortho's suggestion - More Surgery.

I have the full mask, there sending me a different strap through though as the one I have the top part of it seems to walk up the back of my head. Ill see how it goes. The nice lady I spoke to said I was doing very well with it as I seem to be able to fall asleep with it on now its just when something changes I wake up.

Fingers crossed.

On another note just been shaking all my paint up and sorting it into number order again :) lol something to do whilst watching top gear I suppose :)

I've also found my mask fits better when I shave my head, and there is less sliding about. Having said that, its getting to be time to shave my head again.
