Hello every one, i am new to this hole inter-net forum thing. This site is what i was looking for. I just started to paint again after 15 years. I am developing my style currently and this is the place to find what you like or don\'t like.
Am i the only person out there that likes metilic paint over NMM. Yes i do relise NMM requires more skill.

Welcome to our community!! :D

I guess there\'s nothing wrong with painting metal using metallics... it\'s just a choice of technique.

It\'s just the same with blacklining: some people like it and some hate it because it makes the mini look cartoonish according to them.

What\'s so wonderful about all these mini painters here? That they all have their own style :)

Be sure to post your pictures here when you upload some, and we will be glad to help you!

See you!

Greetings and Salutations - we may seem like a gruff bunch at first but then when you get to know us you\'ll realize we\'re much worse than that lol Especially that Finn17 character - (not to worry folks I got his permission to use his name in vain) he\'s dangerous

welcome indeed....

There are quite a few experts that frequent the forums, so it is a great place to do some \'research\".....

Welcome, hope you have fun.

Hi Seth

I started a tongue-in-cheek poll on this very topic a short while ago. Turned into a marathon debate. If you wish to check it out, its here:

I\'d just like to add that there is an equal number of us (me) that son\'t really know sh#t, but refuse to let that stand in the way of offering advice:p:duh:

Once you get used to our idiosyncracies, though, we\'re really a sick, twisted and perverted group.

Don\'t let that deter you though. Dive right in! The water\'s fine!

Welcome - glad to find another metal-head. I have yet to see a NMM mini up close up so should reserve my opinion but I hanker after seeing minis that look like they have real armour on. (also I paint NMM like crap)

A wave Hello.....

I’d like to add my hello and welcome too, Seth, I’m also new to Cmon and have been reading up a storm here for new ideas and techniques. Just groping my way around..grope..grope..grope Oops...blush.....sooooorry ;)

Welcome Seth!

Welcome Wiccanpony!

As to the Metal Vs NMM question - I personally don\'t care - NMM done well is much more impressive visually - I\'m more inclined to go Wow but I wouldn\'t knock a nicely painted regiment of Empire Spearmen because they used Boltgun Metal on the spear tips ....

i wouldnt say metallics is a less skilled tecnique than nmm anyone can paint something black and drybrush boltgun metal but to do really good metallics is a very difficult skill to master. i think overall i prefer the look of nmm done well but i still really like well done metallics as well.

nmm

It is an acronym meaning \"no metal metallics\" or \"near metal metallics\"

It basically means using non metalic paints and highlighting and shading to give the impression of reflections.

Check out Arjay\'s stuff in the \'browse\" feature, he may be one of the best at it....

Ahh.. NMM = Non Metallic Metal

NMM is a technique whereby metallic effects are created by using the \'normal\' colours available on the pallette, instead of specialised \'metallic\' paints. IMO it is an advanced technique best tackled when you have all the standard techniques fully mastered.

This question is traditionally answered by Chrispy, but as I was around I thought I would give you some immediate feedback. The gentleman himself will undoubtedly be along to answer you shortly, but in the mean time, you can do some research by reading his article here:
