Hello CMON Community,

I just registered to the page and love it already. It features the most awesome Minis I have ever seen and the best thing about it you can get in contact with all there creators! :bouncy:

I\'m new with Miniaturepainting and found this page while I was lurking for tips and tricks to paint my first Eldar Army(WH40k).
I first found some useful tutorials to create my workspace and while I browsed through the site, I recognized that this must be the one place where I will come back to all the time for inspiration and learning.
I love the models of so many of you, esspecially I love the Eldar ones. I love black- or whitebased minimalistic colorschemes like shown on those masterpieces:

Those three show a incredible chalky black:
Black warlock by brokenblade
Black Rangers by Hortwerth
Black Mini by Edwaen

Straight black:
Wraithlord by Brokenblade
Black DE vehicle by Aqis

White and Red just go together like
mayonnaise and ketchup:

RedWhite
Warlock by Mr F

RedWhite Warlock by Brokenblade
RedWhite Warlock by MicroArtStudio

So I could just ask about how u made all of these but as I just started out and some of those guys above have 16 years experience I guess that would be pointless. I got myself my first colorset consisting of:
Chaos Black Spray, Choas Black, Skull White, Shadow Grey, Codex Grey, Space Wolfes Grey, Fortress Grey, Ultramarines Blue, Sunburst Yellow, Blood Red, Necron Abyss, Black ink.

My topic is black and all shades of black and I gonna try around on some sm and de I got left from the basic pack back in 2004.

My next steps will be white and red/orange and than blue. I\'ll buy my colors step by step and build up on the knowledge I got form painting with a specif range fo colors. I really want to try out white basecoding aswell but im not sure how long i can keep those sprays and sicne i aint got much to paint i fear I waste the money.

So whats left to say. I\'m a 22 year old student live with my gf and like all things Computer.

Happy to be here!

regards

Yog

Well its good to see you have so much enthusiasm. You came to the right place for any of your needs in painting miniatures form inspiration in the galleries to tutorials in the articles. You will be coming back at least once a day I can almost bet on that. Welcome and enjoy. Cant wait to see some of your stuff.

welcome! post w.i.p.s and you can learn a helluva lot. also don\'t forget you can pm the artist for specific tip (most will reply, although some only use it for hosting auction pics)

if you like eldar, have you seen razza\'s halequins:

Welcome to coolmini! I will try and put aside my dislike of the pointy-headed ones (that\'s Eldar you anyone else). lol

As others suggest, ask questions in the painting and conversion thread and if you have a camera to take pics then you can show your progress in the Work in progress threads. If you have specific questions about a particular mini, don\'t be afraid to contact the painter. So far all my questions have been answered. With a willingness to learn and accept constructive criticism, you\'ll find plenty of people here who are willing to help.

My tips:

1# If you are painting a miniature to display standard make sure you\'ve cleaned off all the mold lines and then REALLY clean it up - buff it up to a polished shine if you can. The smoother and flatter you make it the better it will look when you apply the paint. Rank and file minis you don\'t have to be so fussy about.

2# Plenty of light in your work area:
I keep a floor-standing light next to my \"desk\" (it\'s a folding picnic table I bought for £4.50.. not much space in my room) and I also have a fluorescent desk lamp (they were both very cheap - combined price £15). Good lighting makes it much easier to paint accurately.

3# Brushes: Get some decent brushes - I like Windsor & Newton Galeria - and keep a couple of scraggy old ones for mixing.

4# DILUTE THE PAINT!

Hi Sahnejogurt!

Welcome to the forums and on CMON. Also nice to see another upcoming Eldar player. You check my photos if you want to see some middle class painting, hehehe.
Its not black and white, but all shades of grey. Feel free to ask me stuff, I have not 17 years experience, but perhaps I can give you beginner advices since I guess I\'m not that far away from beginner.

Cheers! :drunk:

Welcome aboard.

This is definitely the place to come to learn. My very small gallery is a prime example of the difference this place can make.

One picture ranked below 5, and my second posted image hanging just shy of a 7, and I owe every one of those improvements to the inspiration and education I\'ve gotten from reading the threads and articles here.

And MPJ is being far too modest.

And yes. Practice. More than I do. I\'m putting in a lot more painting lately than I usually do, but odds are I\'ll go back to just hoarding miniatures again in a few months, and will spend much of my time rolling around in them the way Scrooge McDuck does in his bank vault full of money.

Only I\'ll get more pokes than he does.

Thx ppl

Thank u all for the warm welcome.- I ofcourse checked all ur galleries. Moha thats some nice progress you made here. Jicki Ichi your middleclass painting is incredible...
You definatly take advantage of ur graphity exp. nice paintings and awesome conversions really liked that and well I\'ll just forget that u stated u would be close to beginner.
I liked all the work I saw really nice minis. I\'m rdy to go now. I have got all the materials I need and will start with painting some test SM. I don\'t know yet if I dare to put them up cause they prolly wont be worth a 3. But I\'ll see how I get out.

Concerning my Eldar Army I\'m struggeling atm about the color scheme. Thought about either a Lava kinda Exodite scheme with lots of black and in contrast strong Orange and red colors or a snowwhite scheme with white and iceblue colors.
I hate guardians already since I just dont come up with an idea for there painting except colored heads and white/black armor. When I would like to bring Orange or red parts onto there armor I really have to be careful where to apply those. I cant use bright colors in the deep places on the model if it\'s a black model since it would kinda look flat I feel. On the other hand small bright lines in the deep places are what u do to achieve a lava effect. Well I got to test it. Some example pictures I made with SS the pc game to warhammer 40k just to show u what i\'m on about.

The tool cant show how a mini actually will look its very plain and has bad lightening/shading and u can\'t apply any sort of pattern. It\'s just about the color selection not where the colors will exactly be. Hope u dont get eyecancer from it.

black and shiny red
white and dark red
white and shiny blue
redish black and orange

Especially the black on the pics swallows all the details while a black on a model would look totally different. I would aim for a more redish black with a broader range so it doesnt look so onecolored.

As I mailed you I can just say that I learned a lot of stuff here on CMON. Before CMON I was only drybrushing, which is good, but there\'s so much more you can do to achieve nice effects.

Also CMON is the greatest place to get inspiration and motivation to get your job done = the kick in the ass most of the creative people I know need. lol

can\'t look at your links here at work. So I\'ll check them out at home.

I would start to post a thread in the WIP section here. Since you start a WIP with thoughts on colours used and perhaps how to make a conversion.

So see you at the WIP forums? :)

P.S.. Getting the right colour scheme for an army can be damn hard. Always makes me mad. Still not sure about my tyranid scheme...I\'ll post some pics someday :)
First of all I would say: Keep it simple as a begin and make more details on special models (autarch, wraithlords, falcons). Eldar are not that much models to paint, but still....

(P.S.S.: I\'m the king of double posts, srry for that)
