...the breed of large dog in this sculpting???????

I just started this piece and do not know the type of dog. I want to make sure they\'re painted properly, but my search on the internet \'under large dogs\' and after viewing 100\'s of pics, I still cannot find it. If I knew the breed, perhaps it would help in my search?
Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Faye

Farseerlum, you\'re very funny!lol

Okay, I think I\'ve fixed the link for my WIP. The dogs look to me like a breed of greyhound?....Their snouts are long and narrow and the abdoman appears very narrow as well, but they obviously have a lot of hair/fur and a long bushy tail so I\'m confused??:(

Thanks for any assistance,
Faye

Faye -

They are Afgahns. Heres a link to the original that the mini was copied from http://www.sfae.com/artists/vargas/exhibit1/art_1-02.html - a painting by the great Alberto Vargas.

OMG...Funny AND Smart!!

Merci beacoup, steelcult and for the rapid response!! I have finished painting Diana(too bad they scuplted her with clothes on) as I loved the original art work! But she\'s turning out to be a stunning piece. Now if I can just paint those afghans to perfection as well!:flip::bouncy::flip:

I have two figures in the works, but now I can concentrate on completing this one!

Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!:D If you ever need, or want anything, you just whistle!;)

P.S Thank you, Mike, for the great close-up shot of the Borzoi Afghan...that will make it a snap to paint those dogs...I hope :D

mule

old and stubborn
Bother,
I was going to be first to say Afghan, but the missus dragged me away from the computer...
Just to be different, I\'ll say that the Borzoi fits the model better...

and to add something more interesting, you could paint them as:
Anatolian Sheepdogs (the best dog there is:p - the muzzle\'s not quite right, but hey)
Australian Sheepdog(go Aussie!, Note: not the cattle dog or terrier...)
Belgian Malinois or Belgian sheepdog
Borzoi - this one fits the model really well
:cool:even the tail
Curly-coated retriever lol
Gordon Setter
Irish Wolfhound (just needs a goatee)Plott (a nice hunting dog)
Saluki???
Vizsla (very intelligent)

if you were to shorten that coat,
there is a hole bunch of dogs you could use:
Weimaraner, Doberman pinscher, greyhound, etc.
Add to the coat and you could get a real nice collie (Lassie for the Americans...)

BTW - I\'ve only owned Australian cattle dogs, Aussie Kelpie X\'s, and Dingoes (pure and X).

Thank you everybody!!

I can\'t thank you enough. I feel privilaged to know such a group of people. Intelligent, witty, charming and down right fun!:flip::bouncy: Honestly, I don\'t feel as though I live alone at all. Too bad you all couldn\'t come to dinner....I\'m also a gourmet cook, but I can get down with a good, old-fashioned spread or BBQ as well,(born and raised in Tennesse)!

:D
Thanks again, for all the help...bless you,
Faye

That Saluki is kind of similar but it lacks the fluffy coat and has the wrong kind of ears... this is the best pic I could find of the Borzoi.... :D

You are right...

They don\'t have Saluki ears.

Oh well, I will have to watch Crufts this week and brush up on my dog identification skills:bouncy:

Mea Culpa

Ok, so they aint Afghans, they\'re Borzios - blame my poor ID skills on the fact that 1. I\'ve seen Afghans and they look similar in body shape, and 2. I\'ve always thought that Borzois were just Afghans having a bad hair day.

Afghanistan

These are a very beautiful breed of dog from Afghanistan. A close friend of mine had a pair of them. They are always seen in pairs for some strange reason. I recall them being a reddish brown color but the last time I saw them was 20 years ago.
