Help for Hurricane Victims

I promised I would post in so here it is.
CNN Quote
\"We need to recognize we may be about to experience our equivalent of the Asian tsunami, in terms of the damage and the numbers of people that can be killed,\" said Ivor van Heerden, director of the Louisiana State University Public Health Research Center in Baton Rouge.
This is a bad article so I will cut and paste no more than this..It is startling.

My husband was stationed in Gulfport, Mississippi in the Navy and called his friends that are still there. We discussed this because the panic in the voice on the telephone answering him was very devastating to him. They have three kids and one has autism, they were racing to leave and the final thing said was they hope they will have a home to go back to. I think we all know the chances are they will not.

I would love to donate a ton of cash but I can not... I do not have it and the small donation I can muster I will, but we have time and paint and extra minis that we were going to sell on eBay.
I have some wood elves and can mail them around to painters that have time and want to rapid fire some pieces out. No big production just mass production. We paint better then the average bear and it would be better than feeling helpless.
I\'m sorry but living here in FL it hits rather close to the heart, We indeed could be next. With Katrina hitting hard and more tropical depressions on their way, we feel an urgent need to help however we can.

We are going to try no army but troops and heroes or characters auctioned in waves and cheesy incentives to get them done as well as incentives to get the highest price. I am starting a thread to this effect and will place a link here after it is up.

Dave maybe you could help by telling us later where the money is the least abused and the most helpful. We are thinking of you all of us here.

This will be a no bells no whistle project with waves of troops/characters to be auctioned on ebay as fast as we can produce them.
Please if you have committed to Cedric\'s project do not break that commitment. Cedric means the world to our entire family and I do not want hurt him or his cause.
So as we sit at the table prepping minis to go out we are working out the things help the flow. We have a troop of glade guards prepped and primed already ready to mail in the tomorrow for those who can help... We have one taker on the Limited Standard Bearer and I have so many pre-orders of this stuff I can funnel quite a bit of minis out quickly. We will only ask a 3.00 USD mailed back with the mini so I do not have to beg for the pay pal fees later.
I am ready to priority mail the first troop so let me know if you can help with out delays.
Thank you
Todd, Tracy, Becca & Stefen

I\'m in, I really realy enjoy painting for charity and this is a good cause, this one looks bad. And Cedric, I\'m still 100% behind paint aid 2 as well, don\'t worry :)

I don\'t want to be overly redundant with what Tracy said but I do want to say a few things.
I was stationed in Gulfport, MS, a stones\' throw away from Biloxi, and a short drive to New Orleans (we\'d go there on Saturday afternoons to party and come back late that night). I\'ve been there, I\'ve seen these places and know some of the people.
There are a few military bases in the area, and while I think of those personnel, my thoughts go beyond the troops. I think of the husbands, wives, sons and daughters of those service people who have homes in the area, whose loved ones are away and unable to help them in this crisis.
I think of the poorer sections of New Orleans, et al, and all the people (and children) who are not capable of evacuating in time.
I feel a desperate need to help and I hope that you will join our family in this effort.

I had just finished assembling a troop of glade guards that I intended to paint for sale on ebay. I got as far as primer and a basecoat of green on five of them. They are ready to be mailed to those who would like to help. I am in the process of prepping another troop of the same.
With connections with the distributors to get additional pieces, the capacity to create another website to assist in coordination, the know-how and the lessons learned from Paint Aid to help us coordinate this effort more smoothly, quickly, and efficiently, and the passion to see this through, we are ready to move forward.

Sorry for not having reacted before (my home PC took itself for a bar-b-q this week-end :().

After having talked with that Florida familly we all love of the possibility of redirecting the second edition of Paint Aid to this worthy cause, we came to a conclusion that it wouldn\'t be fast enough. But I\'ll be more than happy to put up a link to your site and try to send a painted mini to help out :).

Best of luck,

Cédric

MAn was watching the news yeasterday and thinking of doing somthing. And I would love too. Unfrotunatly I\"m starting class on friday. And I\'m afraid that calsses won\'t leave me time to paint much. If I do have time I\'ll be more then happy to do somthing. Otherwise I\'m on vacations in six weeks, I\'ll have the time to paint then hopfully.
Hope all in katarina\'s path make it out ok.

Best of luck and well wishes for anyone in the path of the Hurricane, thankfully there has been a bit of a warning so I expect life loss should be very low, if completely none-existant at all (hopes). That said, the property is going to take a beating.

Bit busy on my end, but I\'ll be happy to announce it on the website and will follow this with interest.

Best of luck.

Count me in peeps, I\'ll give it my best to do something just name what you want doing and it will be done. I can get the minis from GW while I\'m at work if that is the way you are going.
I committed to Cedric\'s scheme as well and look forwardto hearing about that but this will in no way stop me from being involved in that schem when something is that is important to you, you make the time I would paint 24 hours a day without sleep if I could for charity as it is so rewarding knowing you are giving something that you are reasonably good at to help others.

Count me in. Anything I need to pick up (minis?) to send your way?

@Nate, it allready killed several people as it skirted FL. This thing is HUGE as it is bearing down on the gulf coast.

Yep count me in too, is there going to be any secial name for this appeal, as regards the painting side of it, like something we can put on auctions (similar to paint aid i supose) so that people will know an auction is from a cmon community member for the charity, i\'ll see what i have around to paint up especially.

@ Airhead

Huh - haven\'t turned on the news today, didn\'t know that, but as I said in chat earlier, I\'m surpised people didn\'t get out when they could.

Anyhow - I\'ve added the Paint Aid to the news section of the Wyrd Miniatures site.

@Broken Blade
Yes we need a name because Cedric is doing the Paint Aid II that is his gift... this needs to be fast and separate.

So here we go ......

\"Works of Heart\"

catchy yes???

@FF Please change your site to that name I do thank you for the advertisement and as we create the web site if you could link to it it would be great
About not leaving... the poverty rate in some of these areas is staggering and many did not have cars as well. It is possible that 4 of 10 impoverished are kids in New Orleans (CNN today)

We are mailing to Eric & DR today...extras are going to DR to be able to rapid mail to other Europeans that sign up so Brokenblade send me your address and I will forward to Dr
The troop pieces will be prepped to be able to rank up before mailing out to painters...DR I do not know how you ranked the gnoblars up but I do not want to try

@Airhead We do have the army box here that the first troops will come from, but we will have to be creative for more minis after that is exhausted. If you are faster to pick up a mini or box you could always paint what you have time for out of the box and mail the unpainted with your painted to be distributed down the road to others. Or you could buy a character and just paint the individual. Its your call.

We shall start a site construction and the minis will be mailed today.
Thank you all

Man, fair enough about poverty, but since when is owning a car a deciding factor on such things? I ain\'t got no car! I don\'t want no car either! CNN are diabolical.

Good luck by the way chaps/chapesses.

CNN are diabolical.

Yeah I know that is why I quoted the source, I do not fully trust any statistics to begin no matter where they come from.

I experience public transit in this part of the US it is nothing like you have there you all are light years ahead of the South. Your trains etc. you all do not need a car we could not do with out one to escape here.

So we debated this as a family
Should you just send money to Red Cross... but we did the devils advocate practice...If I have 15.00 to give that, is what it is worth in cash but, if I hand one of the painters here willing to paint the 15.00 mini...the minis value far out weighs my 15.00 cash in donation, yes even with fees :D
So we say yes! sure donate and it is monetary I will give you a buy a mini, give you a receipt, then a picture of your mini and the alas of who it is being sent to so you can follow along the WIPS if they have time or finished results.
If you have time buy a Wood Elf and send to us ( I started this with Wood Elves because they are the newest models but really cause I bought an army box and am one of the few in this country that actually pre ordered so early I got one ...I have also have pre ordered all the other characters in the wood elf army.I am willing to give them away. I called and they are shipping the new wave in the AM Tues. so that is more goodies as well.

For painters.....I should clarify.
You do not need to paint a troop....only one figure of the troop ...if you want to paint a troop..great but I know it would be faster for me to paint one and combine it with others that are painting theirs at the same time thus quicker to auction and a steady flow of single characters and troops to sell.

Hi Tracy, I spoke with DMofDoom thisafternoon and said I\'d pop into my local GW today whilst at work and pick up something to save having minis shipped backwards and forwards. If you let me know what you would like me to do I\'ll get on the case.

Cheers Tim.

I\'d love to paint something for this. I am pretty busy this week, and out this weekend, so when would it need to be finished by? I don\'t have any wood elves and I could only get them by ordering them, so do you have any left?

Also, I couldn\'t find any info on Paint Aid II, so how do I get involved with that?

Thanks a bunch,
-James
