alrighty, as some of you know, my family (TAB Studio, DMofDoom and lilman53007) were unable to attend Grailquest here in lovely FLA. so i am suprising them by putting on my own little \"con\" so far i know we need to, paint, play D&D magic and mechwarrior, we dont play warhammer so at least i wont have to worry about that :p

but other than that, ive only been to one con....whatelse can i do to make it more like a con?

thanks guys! you are the coolest!:D

never been but...

I haven\'t actually been to any sort of convention before (although that will change here shortly w/ Gamesday in Chicago)

But, from what I have seen/heard/read from the fine folks here you will need...

An assortment of loud, smelly young men and boys.

A rules lawyer, someone who can quote every rule from every system ever invented.

Some people who insist on being in character the entire event.

Sales booths, (maybe just have a PC pointed to newwave.org and the CMON shop)

Mini-celebrities...I am not sure what that means, maybe that little guy from Austin Powers?

It is really nice of you to this! I know my suggestions won\'t help much, but hey!!lol

Corvus to the rescue!

I think you could add some other cool things to your surprise con, without too much work: for example a painting demo. Install a painting table and ask one of your friends to give painting sessions. Another thing you could do is fill a table with second-hand stuff, such as unpainted minis, scenery and paint.

And maybe a small painting competition, but that requires a bit more work of course.

Too bad I live so far away from all of you, otherwise it would be cool to help

airhead

Coffin Dodger / Keymaster
DEALER Tables :p:flip::bouncy:

Cool stuff for sale that you cannot find at your FLGS. Hard to do for a home-based con, but that is mostly what I go for.

Other things:
Clicks games (heroquest, battletech, etc.)
CCG games (MtG, Yu-Gi-O, etc.)
Old favorites (risk, kingmaker, aweful green things, Ogre, etc.)

Prize certificates (1st, 2nd)
Painting contests.
Timed painting contest. (Mini on the table as well as 10 paints and 2 brushes, 1 hour - go.)

WizKids Stuff

Try to find a WizKids Envoy in your area, they would probably be happy to set up games of Mage Knight, Mach Warrior Dark Age, HeroClix, and the about to come out Pirates of the Spanish Main- ( A very cool naval battle game!). I\'d love to do it for you but can\'t get there from Denver.

WizKids supplies cool prize support and goodies for such events. You might try going to wizkidsgames.com and search for an envoy by zip code!

Good Luck on the mini-Con:cool:

How about.....

having a raffle - you could charge a modest entrance fee and they get a raffle ticket in return?

Oh and maybe something to comemorate the event - like a badge. You can design a graphic on the PC, then print it on that stuff you put in the oven and it shrinks and goes hard. You can then attach a pin or even a magnet :D

Plus, if you have a raffle, there\'s an outside chance that SuperVike may show up dressed in his lingerie lol lol lol lol

You need an asshole dressed in full space marine armour to barge his way past everyone and generally get on everyones tits with his \'in character\' mentality! Well that\'s what they had at the last Games Day I went to back in 1990.

Failing that you need booooooooze....

:|~

Ah! Sounds just like GD 2003 then....

They weren\'t SMs though. IGs I think...acronym for ignorant gits.....

Booze...yes...a MUST.

However...there should be two types of booze available:

warm monkey piss sold onsite in plastic glasses for about $10 a hit. mmmmh luverly:|~

Alternatively..really nice real ale sold in a convivial atmosphere with nice home-cooked food a real fire and comfy chairs. This needs to be available in a location about half a mile away from the Con site and have absolutely nothing to do with the Con.

In England, this is generally where you will find anyone over 30, once they have acquired their limited edition miniatures.

OOHH!!! Did anyone mention those???

You got to have a limited edition mini, only available at the Con....That\'s the only reason I ever go....that and the pub of course:D

...yeah me too,...as it was I did one of those kinda spitty sort of laughs....god knows what would have happened with a mouthful of coffee.. :D

on a more constructive note we could all \"enter\" a pic from our galleries in your painting comp (just for fun :) )

A few things I have remembered from my Con experiences...

- Crud hotdogs with no ketchup to be found for $3 each
- Warm cans of pop kept in a cooler with no ice that cost $2 each
- Frothy kid running around cause there is too much to do (I actually saw a kid pass out at a Con cause there was too much going on)
- Some form of Anime booth or viewing room, with everyone asking for more tentacles
- 1 PC with a guy playing Doom 1 or Diablo 1 on it, and 12 guys watching him
- running late by 6 hours and hiding in a room trying to finish a D&D scenario while the security guy is kicking everyone out

But for me, the biggest highlight for any Con has got to be the Uber Character game. It doesn\'t matter then size of the Con, or the game system used, but having a 4-6 hour scenario where you and the party are all Uber minmaxed freaks taking on hoardes of underpowered peons is the best. Screw \"Role Playing\", just a slaughterfest!!! Remeber, if anyone in the party actually takes a wound, then the enemy is too strong.
