Help me copy a S.G. paint scheme.

First things first. Hi, my name is Jaak. This is my first time here, but I'm not a mini addict. My friends are...

I just got my hands on a Rense System Navy starter fleet for the Firestorm Armada game by Spartan Games because I loved the look of their painted fleet. So much so that I want to copy it, but I have very little painting skill and the friends I ask about this paint scheme are uncertain of how it was done. Can some of you Wizard lever painters do me a favour and make some assumptions as to how S.G. painted this fleet?

Bit hard for me to say exactly but there looks to be a greenish tone in the grey basecoat, you might consider looking at the Vallejo Model Colours for a suitable green/grey.

The basic ship scheme seems similar to what GW does for Space Marines Power Armor. My best guess is a base coat of a medium gray, wash per DR's comment above, then highlight with a lighter shade of gray and sharp edge highlight with an even lighter shade of gray (or white), with red thrown in for markings and white for details.

I'd try a WWII colors from Vellajo such as Panzer gray or German uniform gray. (touch of green as DR mentioned.)

Dark wash to bring out the panel lines and details.

Then a light grey to highlight.

Right here.

Basically a wash is extremely diluted paint which will take several applications to achieve a change of colour in the underlying paint.

So just to make sure I got this straight...

1) Paint the model a choice of Grey.
2)Use a dark wash to make the black lines and darken the grey color.
3)Add detail with the other colors as shown in pictures.

Step 3 brings up another question though. The picture of the Carrier has three red lines at the front. The red lines do not look like just a sold red right out of the pot. What was done to it to give it that dull and subdued look?​

Mix a small amount of grey into the red and test on some plastic until you achieve the desired effect.
