Help me decide!

Hiya! I\'ve decided to try and finish some of my WIPS before I start anything new, so this evening I gathered together my semi-painted stuff to see what needs some TLC. There\'s not nearly as much as I feared, but my list doesn\'t include any half-painted minis that I want to strip and repaint and obviously doesn\'t include any bare metal or primered minis. Some are quite recent (like my Circle stuff) and some dates back several years (like my Empire dudes). Here\'s a pic of them all:

So, I\'d like suggestions on which ones I should do first! Then when I\'ve finished one, I can post decent pics here. Hopefully, this will give me the impetus to polish them off.

Also, an unrelated question: Can anyone suggest a good pair of wings for a Ral Partha Armoured Dragon? I managed to buy one with two right wings, and it\'s not like I can send back to the manufacturer for a replacement! The slots for the wings are about 2cm in length and very straight, see the picture:

Thanks! :)

You\'re lucky you have so few WIPs! I have cleaned and partially started miniatures all over the place...lol

I\'d vote for Onyx the Prowler. He\'s a fun model to paint. A clean sculpt with lots of smooth areas to practice blending.

It\'s nice to get rid of some stuff that you\'ve already done quite a lot of work on, as it really doesn\'t take so long to finish if you just set your mind to it. So, I\'d try an finish off Onyx the Prowler, the \"Reaper chick\", the Rackham mercenary and possibly the mindflayer.

The Empire minis also seem about half done, but I always find it difficult to continue on something I started years ago.

I know! I was astonished too, but this is just the ones that I\'ve actually started painting and don\'t want to strip, although I\'m still not sure about the Empire chaps- I appear to have painted the horse the same colour as the barding! lol

Onyx, you say? He is nice, and there isn\'t that much to do to him before he\'s done. Poor wolfie has been stuck at wip stage for about 2 1/2 years \'cos I\'m lazy! lol

So 3 votes for the diorama so far, and 2 for poor old Onyx? Well, I\'ll have to see what I can do! :)

Thanks for the contributions!

Obviously, you do Onyx next, or when you need a quick break from the diorama. :D

How about GW Balrog wings for that dragon. Unlike most of the wings you seem to get on minis the membrane actually connects to the body. I\'m pretty sure it would be the right length too.

do they still sell those seperately?

That\'s an interesting idea. I have a balrog, and have just compared the wings and body. I\'m not sure how well it would work without looking unbalanced- the balrog wings are much wider than the originals. Not much difference in length, tho, as you say. Perhaps if I filed down the upper part of the flight arm (i.e., the part closest to the body), it might be ok; an unmodified balrog wing arm is about half as thick as the dragon\'s body!. I was also wondering about the wings of the new HE dragon. Alas, it seems a bit too new for GW to be selling its wings as bitz just now, and I don\'t like the old GW dragon wings (or dragons, for that matter).

Actually, thanks for the advice on the wings, but I just had a brainwave and dremelled off the tab of the offending wing, and I found that if I artistically bend it and its opposite number, it works out fine. Dunno why this didn\'t occur to me earlier! I\'ll post pics once I\'ve done it- I\'m going to remove the tab and decoration from the base of the other wing too, so they both sit \"properly\". I\'ll probably GS some armour detail in myself, cos otherwise there\'ll be no finishing border to the chainmail under the wings.

I cannot do WIP\'s. Once I stop painting a miniature and start painting another I never finish the previous one. Maybe that is why it takes me forever to post pics of new minis.

I like your onyx mini. I say you finish him :)

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

So, this is what I\'m going to do- start on the diorama, and do Onyx and the Circle bits for light relief. I shall put up close-up pics after the weekend (I\'m going away).
