im looking for some pointers on painting something to represent a glass tank with a swirling gas inside it.

Something similar to how jupiter looks, or the navigators tank from the original dune movie for instance.

So hopefully somebody can give me some tips and maybe some good examples.

cheers

You\'re not asking for the moon there are you, Mike?

Off the top of my head I\'d suggest using a mid to deep grey basecoat with overlaying swirls of lighter colours. But If this is intended to be a clear tank you\'re going to hit a major problem in the Light deflection of the sides of the tank as they will only be visible from one specific direction.
Think of the way a glass of Water (or Beer) looks when you face it square on, the sides of the glass can been seen as a brighter distortion which we can\'t represent in minipainting.

the idea is that the contents will make the take opaque, think guiness as its settling.

Its more the way to get the colours to look like they are swirling, more the pattern than the colours that im after.

As always prefer the simple ways of doing things lol

the only thing i could suggest is to get someone who smokes to blow smoke into a bottle and then take a quick pick.

study it and paint what you see.

Have a look at the \"Force weapon in 0.1 seconds) tutorial, that might come in handy for swirling gas...

Be interested to see how it turns out - post some pics!

This is in preparation for a scratch build dark eldar vehicle i shall be working on.

First things to be posted will be the concept sketches.

Well the ones that make sense to normal people, not the originals, that way lies madness :D
