Help needed with painting kroot

Hey all - this is my first post here

anyway - i am gonna do a kroot merc army and i need to know how to paint kroot nicely

time is no issue and I considermy self and intermediate painter

I was thinking a blueish colour like maybe

spray ultra blue
then heavy drybrush of hawk tourquise
and bleach bone belly

I looked thru an encyclopedia of birds, and found some extremely colorful tropical birds. My kroot have a lot of reds, whites, blacks, and yellows. The bodies are green, with yelowish beaks. The quills have different colors, mostly bright primary colors.

I\'d stick to earthen tones, specifically to stay away from the infamous \"Christmas Kroot\" that GW painted (I believe its in Codex Tau, but its done in a jade green and red scheme).
Go for muted browns and greys, use the weapons and accessories to offset the basic colors with some outlandish colors there (hey, maybe they ate some Orks?). Also, warpaint or tattoos could be cool.

I like my orange Kroot that I painted for the hell of it. It was based on a sept-b-step for skiks in the Battle Fleet Gothic WD:

Spray White. Mix Orange w/ Orange ink and paint. Drybrish a bit white/yellow. Stick a bit of chesnut in the deep holes...

The annoying bit is paintingt he gun brown/back. But maybe that\'s linked to me having really bad brown paint.

Also warpaint looks good on Kroot. I used some Orc Flesh wash (green) in a zigzag on one side of the face.

I made up my own color I called Kroot Flesh which was basically a mix of Rotiing Flesh, Scorched Brown and Codex Gray.. this made them look more like the kroot on the box. As for kroot markings, I stick to tattoos that look like they could be made with claws and not rounded like human fingers. Also, I like to make their belly plates a lighter color than the skin with stripes to make it look like bone. Hope this helps, as I never really finished mine..
