Help painting a red

Hey all,

I have some experience painting red but it\'s always been a more vibrant red.

What I am looking for is more like the red in this link:

I really want it to be a dusty looking lighter red. Can anyone give me hints on colours to use. I use Vallejo, GW.

Thanks heaps,

J

It looks more like an orange red to me. Check out Vallejo Model Color\'s line, I\'m sure they have something similar.

Pick a red you like and simply mix it with a sandy earth colour, that\'ll get you the right sort of basic duller orange-red base.

For the highlights try white + whatever earth colour you used (proportions are a matter of taste, start with a 1:1 mix of the white and sand, try it and see how things look when the paint is dry).

For the shadows I\'d try adding a little additional red to the basic mix + a dot of black, with more red and black for the darkest mix.

Not sure what others think of this but I always use a blue, something like Midnight blue to shade reds. From GW range

Been a while since I bought paint so not sure what the new name of it is. Regal Blue looks a bit like it

For high lighting I use a yellow something like Sunburst yellow. Again from GW
