Help w/basic conversion?

Hey all,
My sister was looking for a female spear-wielding cleric for her D&D game, and was unable to find a suitable fig as is - so, she asked me to replace the sword with a spear on one of the minis below:

I\'ve never done any conversions, but I\'m willing to have a go at attempting to fulfil the wishes of the sibling... if anyone could offer me tips and warnings, or point me in the direction of some other resources, I\'d be a happy critter!

To be honest I don\'t think that either is a particularly good choice. I believe that there is too much resculpting to do on the second link figure and the first, to me, wouldn\'t look right.

EDIT: Just had a thought : One of the Rackham lines, Griffins or lions has Halberdiers. They might be easier to convert. Or the priestess of Steel.

thats nice...

why aren\'t my siblings as nice to me??

I think, first things first, is that you will need to remove the sword. It seems photo number 1 would be an easier removal job.

I prefer the look of number 2, but not sure how easy it would be to remove the sword and the hilt. Clippers, or a sharp knife should get rid of it. You may have to file down to smooth out the area.

The Spear could be made of some simple brass rod. You should be able to find some at a hobby shop (such as for model railroad or RC cars) Attaching it may present a small problem, but you may be able to pin it to the remaining hand. Finally, the spear tip could be fashioned out of bitz, sculpy, or green stuff, just a simple triangular shape.

Good luck, post it when you are done!!

Hmm. Got to go with DR on this one - both of those will be a pain in the buttocks to convert. But if you are going to do one of them, you do want to make the shaft out of brass rod - 2 pieces would prolly be best and in addition to pining the rod in place if you can, I would try to leave a small tab of brass on the rod to use to align the shaft on the hand. If that makes any sense at all.

I\'ll look into those for sure :) They might not be my sister\'s fancy, but if they make my life easier.. ;D

I\'m not sure what you mean by the \"tab\" of brass... it looks like I have some experimenting to do though. I told my sis to buy multiples of things, in the event of irreparable damage. :p

Ok, when I cut brass tubing, I use a dremel - mainly cause I cant find my damn small vise (and cause its so macho to free hand brass tubing cuts (and I love the smell of burnt brass and flesh)) - and I have found that if I dont cut completely through the tubing I leave a small tab of brass - the result of the cutting edge removing a cut the thickness of the blade- I then cut on the other side of this tab, leaving me a small tab for alignment purposes -

You could possibly use the WOTC D&D Female Human Cleric figure with minimal conversion:

This is Inge\'s version. It\'s not exactly the same look as the two Reaper pieces, but easier conversion imo.

Start with plastic miniatures for the practice. Heroclix by Wizkids are cheap and give easily to Mr. Exacto Knife. A little glue and you\'re set.
