Help wanted - Shading Bleached Bone

I\'ve decided to try my first attempt at shading and was wonsering if anyone could help me.

I am using bleached bone as my main colour and was wondering what colour I should use to shade it. The problem is I don\'t want to mix colours as I have an entire army to do and I don\'t paint all that frequently.

Also if you could give me the colour as a GW paint that would also help as it is the only paint I can really get my gubby paws on.

i find that komando khaki is a good shade color for bleached bone. i think there is another color i use also but i cant remember if i used it oncer and hated it..or if i dont use another color at all...hmmmmm

I like either vermin brown or snakebite leather as a shade tone. The bleached bone blend up nicely from there!

Shading Bleached bone

I have found that for myself Snakebite Leather is a really good shade for Bleaced bone and nice effects can be achieved relatively quickly by mixing the base and shade up to just the base colour again and then perhaps just finishing off with a little Skull White here and there.
If you have access to the FOTR rule book it gives a table of shades and highlights for all the GW range of paints that were in production at the time of going to print. It can also be found in the Collecting And Painting Fantasy Armies book. If you dont have a copy I\'d be happy to scan and mail it to you. Hope that helps.

Everyone seems to have missed that you don\'t want to mix paint.
Well, maybe not everyone. I\'m not familiar with that kaki color.
Anyway, since you have a LOT of minis to do, why not get an empty pot or bottle and mix your base and shade in advance?

Depends upon if you want the bleached bone area to look weathered or not depends on how you shade it. Snakebite leater always looks good. Deep shading can be achived through using bestial brown.

For a cleaner bone try something like bronzed flesh with a little BB again mixed in for the real deep shades. This sorta method looks good on things like wraithbone on the GW Eldar.

after sitting staring at my paints for quite some time i have rememberd the other color i use!!!! rotting flesh! if you use the khaki color and rotting flesh and bleached bone(non mixing needed) it looks rather good i think....

Not saying you need blend with Snakebit, but it makes a good shadow tone for the recesses then just come back over the highlights with Bleached Bone

for simple shading you could give it a glaze or two of graveyard earth, maybe more of a wash in the recesses.

AI had a good idea. Or use thinned down vallejo smoke to make shades. Sure, it\'s a bit reddish at times but if you\'re making an army it shouldn\'t be a bother.

Bubonic brown is the darker colour for bleached bone, add white to it and you get bleached bone. Snakebite leather is the shade for bubonic.
