I got awfully inspired by the Wheel of time thread and decided that since there are quite a few fantasy readers out here you guys might actually be able to help me.
Quite a few years ago I started reading this fantasy series and I became totally in love with it. Not so much for how it was written but for the different kind of air it had.
But the author was far from finished and when I reached the latest book I had to finish mid-series. We\'ve all been there, waiting for the author to release the next book in line... So I started reading other series while waiting. Time passed and in the pile of literature that got stashed into my head I lost both the title of the series and of all the books. It doesn\'t help that what I still think is the title of the first book of the series actually is the title of another series that I\'ve never read at all.
With that little sob story of lost loves and amnesia as a background, I think I am ready to describe the series. But, in order to spoil as little as possible to you guys who haven\'t read the series and might want to, I\'ll keep the series plot to myself for the time being and just describe the first book.
SPOILER ALERT
In the first book you get to follow the captain of a flying ship. The ship looks like an old fashioned ship with masts, sails and everything else that belong to a \"normal\" ship.
He is sailing between islands which are floating in the sky, made from some sort of extremely light coral that produces some kind of gas that keeps the islands afloat. The captain is dreaming of being able to afford a Dragon to fly between the islands instead of his old boat.
He meets a shady character, things happen... Just like every other book. About here my memory gets dodgy.
I remember the end of this book quite clearly because if was the first book that actually gave me that \"WTF??\"-feeling for reasons I do not want to spoil.
If no one knows what I\'m talking about I guess I could describe more but until I have to I\'d rather not, to keep the spoilers to a minimum.
