Help With a Purchase

Hey everyone i bought a Forgeworld Malus Darkblade of ebay a few days ago and it arrived today.

BUT i am a little suspicious of it, i have the forgeworld Teclis and it feels quite a lot heavier than the malus despite being similar size also the Teclis is a creamy white resin colour and the Malus is quite a dark grey, darker than the grey plastic used for GW plastics, also the cast is pretty poor and it has a shiny surface.

I dont know if anybody can help with this? if you have seen the figure etc, i checked some google links and they seem the creamy white colour but thought i would through it here first thanks guys

pah if it\'s a recast, it\'ll probably be better than the fw original!

i have bought a few models from them directly and each one is a different resin. colour, bendiness etc

i wouldn\'t be worried if i were you

Agree about the color not mattering. I got some stuff direct from FW for Death Korp of Krieg and some have different colored resin even in the same kit.

Cheers for the input guys, I was just a little apprehensive as the quality of the darkblade was so much worse than the teclis, also I think it has already been primed as I gave it a small file down and the shiny grey came of to a more matt pale grey

Any ideas on how to strip resin?

The Forgeworld resin varies from white to cream to grey. You can\'t assume that a different colour means a recast.

The quality being very bad *might* be an indication of a recast... but then it might not. Forgeworld can vary on that, too. Usually I find Forgeworld stuff to be much better quality as of the past few years, but their older stuff tends to have a ton of bubbles and pits in it.

Lot of the resin is very shiny and sometimes even \"slimy\" from whatever release agent they use. It can be pretty hard to remove, and scratching it can reveal the non-slimy resin beneath. Scrub it in warm water with an old toothbrush and a good soap and see if you can get it off before you try stripping it.

Cheers for the input guys, i dont often buy from forgeworld so didnt know the variety of resin and cast quality with their stuff, i will dettol the miniture down 2m to get rid of the shiny coat and then smooth out the worst areas of casting and prime it up ready to paint

I\'ve got that Malus piece, and it sounds the same as what you describe. I got it from GD a few years back.

And yes, the casting quality is shit! :D

I can\'t quite figure out how FW fluctuates so badly for casting quality. I have the foot tall Abbadon miniature and it\'s flawless. I have never found a single mould line on any of the pieces, and the anatomically correct hollow skulls on the base are simply amazing to behold. I\'ve had a few stinkers from FW, but I\'d say 75% have been well above average for casting quality. Oh well you win some you lose some :p

I bought a DKK army, and it was amazing how great some was, and then some pieces were just head scratchingly awful. The delivery service.... well that\'s another thread but I\'d like to point out that on all my orders the accuracy has been 0%. Sigh..... but I still keep going back to them for my resin/crack fix!

I wish I knew how to quit you Forge World! (Hadn\'t heard that in a while I bet!)

Hehe thanks for the input guys, i will try an slap a few pics of Malus up 2mora.

I think he just needs a thorough clean up job.

And i echo all the comments, my teclis is flawless (despite arriving from the ebayer broke-still needs fixing all you amzing sculptors out there :p) but the malus leaves a little to be desired.

Agree wit hyou there scott im fiening all over for their resin.

At the moment have my eyes on the death company marine and the night goblin to add to my teclis and malus. And eventually get my death korps army, but gota paint my high elves first then everything else i have lying around lol
