Help with Dark Angels robes ??

If you're talking codex standard robes, use an off white and shade down with brown. Nothing too complicated.

What colour primer/undercoat are you using? Try the P3 range for their off whites, they're lovely

Ahhh, see, I've been collecting Dark Angels for a while, I tend to start dark and highlight up. But I prefer dark dark angels. So I guess it depends on what look you are going for. GW used to have some good articles on the store website about painting all facets of Dark Angels (white robes, black/green/bone white armour etc.) sadly all gone now. I have a copy on file, if you want them, PM me I'll send them to you.

My advice is start with a dark base ie steel legion drab with new citadel, then up to ushabti bone for layers, finally screaming skull and white for a subtle edge highlight, then selected glazes with the midtone or lower base steel legion.

I use the following method:
Base with a light brown that has high opacity like rakarth flesh,
shade(wash) with a slightly darker brown like karak stone,
highlight up with rakath again, then utshabi bone (You could even go lighter with pallid wych flesh if you need like),
wash a few times with watered down argax/sepia shades in a argax:sepia:water 1:1:2 ratio, slowly building the shadows where you like.

What paint range are you using by the way - people might be able to suggest colours if we know what you've got

I like Citadel for brush painting and Vallejo is great fro airbrushing. I have P3/Reaper/ArmyPainter/Tamya/ and even Americana, Riotech, Martha Stewart AND EVEN Crayola craft paint in my arsenal. Try everything. If you see a cool color try it out an play with it. You'll be surprised what you can do. I'm even thinking of getting some water colors to try a few ideas I have and I might even branch into oils because of a few nice stains/washes I've seen done with them.
