Hello,

Since I really like this model, I want to enhance it and do a better job.

I know basically it requires actual shadows and hilites.

How would people suggest me starting on this?

could i use darker greens, greys or browns and begin shading the recesses and hidden areas? does anyone have better suggestions?

Regards,

Sanjay

I think glazes could be employed to provide some shading and an injection of a range of juicy colouring to overlay the ill looking skin. Massively thinned brown ink, depending on what part of the skin it's going to cover can have a bit of green or purple added to it. Or applied as a seperate glaze. Having a second brush on standby to dab at the edges of the glaze application to difuse the edge/line of it would be handy. Starting at the darker areas, you'd be able to control how much goes on and build it up to suit your tastes.

Can also use glazes to make the exposed wounds a little juicier, a red/purple glaze to slicken up the innards.

There's a lot of boils on the skin. They could be treated with a bit of yellow, and surrounded by red that fades into the surrounding skin. Where there's a cluster of boils/acne it'd be important to ensure some of them are more or less yellow at the centre than others for variety

Some stronger glazes but not quite unthinned ink could be applied here and there to imply leaking wounds. A bit of red/chestut would work a treat.

Highlights, would have to be sparing but extreme. It's already pretty light. Picking out the skin in a lighter version of the skin colour around the rips in the flesh would be one thing to consider. Dead skin with no blood going to it, it also ramps up the contrast to the dark bloody mess inside the wound.

I don't envy you. It's such a big and detailed mini.

Personally I dont think that needs enhancing at all. The fact its so light and pale, almost pasty, makes it truly look ill. Considering nurgle is all sickness and plague thats fantastic, everyone tends to paint these dark and slimey, but yours captures it from a whole different angle, just sums up a big walking carrier or host to spread something vile!

If you are going to add contrast and shadows id make them very subtle

i'm with the glazing of the shadows, it's a strong piece though. more yellowy stuff on the exposed dimply fat and more blood in the wounds

Exactly, take glazes and push your shadows with a few colors like greens, reds, purples, browns, and then see how that does for helping your contrast. It's light enough now that you might not have to push your highlights much beyond. Add some nice bloody effects and gloss to the innards. I really am liking the pastel look you have on it so far, the plays of color you have going are really nice, I'd try to keep most of that if you continue to work on it.
