Help with NMM, or my adventure in NMM land

I\'ve read the articles and thought I had a grasp of the concepts and mechanics, but failed in execution:

Any advice? Although I\'ve used pure white for the final highlight, it still looks very flat. It looks like he\'s holding a giant plastic inflatable sword from SprawlMart and not a massive & deadly implement of destruction.

*laugh* great comment... :)

Smooth job.. but the trick on NMM is where you highlight. You have highlighted as you would normaly do. Instead try to think where the light might fall on a reflective material, like metal. Also use more contrast.

I did a quick photoshop for you.. it\'s not entirely correct but.. to give some idea.

Yeah, you definatly need more contrast, but I\'d go with a blue grey instead of black.. like Space Wolves Grey. NMM can be trick because you may have to go from a light color to a dark color in a very short space, but you\'ll eventually get the hang of it!
PS: How does a sword that big fit into a scabbard that small?
Hope this helps! :p

Thanks for the advice. I tried it out and got better, but still crap results. So I gave up and painted it as an obsidian blade :)

@chrispy :D I felt the original sword was too puny so I replaced it with a bigger one.
I still have to attach a suitable sword hilt to the top of the scabard.
