Help with painting bones and tusks...

Can someone please point me in the right direction here? I\'m trying to paint that cool \"streaked\" effect on some armour spikes to make them look like bones, but I\'m not quite getting it right.

Is there some special trick here?

They way I\'ve been doing it is blending a light brown at the base of the bone up to a white at the very tip. They trying to lightly paint in darker lines that fade out as they reach the tip. But it\'s hard. I keep messing everything up.

Anyone?

Cheers!

pretty much what Wolf_Fang said, just make sure that you thin out the paint when doing the transisions. Go from Dark to Light and you get higher:)

What your doing is probably right you just need to practice. I go from black thru browm to bone and highlight with white. You can also use red. Just make sure you paint is this and you do nt load the brush too much. dab it on a tissue first. I have a tute on how to make wood. I have used this on bone where you actually put the lines in the bone and use a wash to bring out the streak but it really only works for large horns or tusks. Just keep practising and it will come to you one day. Good luck.

Sounds good except you\'re doing it backwards.

Most horn is light at the base and gets dark at the tip.

Or, look here for a catalog of horns that have been made into powder boxes.

Thats true that some horns get darker at the tip. I do them both ways depending on the color at the base. I like the horns to stand out so light base for dark bit at base etc. Nice link thanks.
