Help with snow base...

OK. As I think this one is the part that lacks most in my current mini (glossy finish has already been dullcoted and removed though not in that particular photo).. I would like to have some feedback from those better experienced than mine...
So I give you the bolt thrower ;)
Of course any comments on the machine and crew are more than encouraged :)

The yellow snow is a turn off. ;)

I don\'t think the foamcore base works and you kind of need to have some ground showing through for added contrast and to look more reallistic. It\'s also hard to see. Some very slight shading would help to bring everything out.

Looks pretty good though,

Gotta agree on that, the yellow is a real turn off. makes it look like a high elf had to take a piss before fireing up the old bolter. Another minior thing is with the high elf holding the sword i would have positioned him so his sword pointed more the same direction as the bolter. as is he looks like he\'s directiong the bolter the wrong way. Like i said, a minor thing really. The figures look nice and cleanly painted but kind of hard to see in those pictures.

Seeing as you already placed the snow, recovering is kinda hard, unless you make a new one...

What you want to do is get a rock or slate and paint it in a dark color (dark grey or brown) with snow only on top of it, not at the sides, or if it\'s windy, lots of snow one side, and nearly bare on the other side.

Kinda hard to explain, but you need something to work as a contrast.

What did you use to make the snow? Flour trick or Baking soda, I\'m gonna try the flour trick on my next mini...

Cheers!

The figures look great drizzt, I think it would of looked better on a contrasting grass type base.
The reason for this is that the high elves have a lot of white on them already.
Great job overall though, keep up the good work.:D

OK, redid some of the base, is it any better now? No yellow spots I think this time. Please if you can, give me some feedback :)

Woot! Much much better. the snow looks more fluffy and windblown now. As well as not looking like the HE\'s had to take a piss. lol

A little tall, dry grass and perhaps a leafless tree/shrub might look nice poking through the snow here and there. Might help brake up the pure whiteness. Just a thought. Looks pretty good so far.

Nice nice nice! :D But I don\'t like the little label on the base, maybe you could get one engraved on brass? :] That would look cool!

Hard freeze? then there would be footprints in the snow in front of and around the bolter - from setup and loading. Not quite so hard a freeze? then the footprints would be muddy/slushy.

To make the snow sparkle, drybrush a bit of thinned white glue then sprinkle with alum. (spice rack).

Test it on some scrap first.

I think the second version looks much better than the first. The only thing that seems a little distracting to me is the trim around the figure bases. They are black and contrast too much directly against the snow. A coat of Shadow Grey or MSP Twilight Blue or a similar color should do the trick. Good work.

Just thought I\'d post in on CMON and let it rest for a bit, so I could get around to some progress on my Marco Colombo.

Thank you all people for your fantastic feedback and help.
