Who are your favorite painters, and why?
It\'s cool how we all have different tastes. Some doods like NMM, others prefer metallics. The list goes on and on... freehand... SENMM... Bright colours etc... etc...

In a nutshell, who\'s your favorite painter. Why?

Thanks:)

I think I would have to choose Mike McVey, some of the work he has done is just brilliant, I remember a diorama that he did of Wood Elf Glade Riders coming out of the forest in an issue of WD and thought wow that just looks so cool. Also his face of between Horus and the Emporor has always been a particular favourite of mine.

Mike is the man!

Cool:) Mike Mc Vey is also one of my favorites.

His face off between Horus and the Emperor is one of the greatest dioramas ever (IMHO)!

I was forraging through the \'White Dwarf\' mags at my favorite games store in Brisbane Australia (Wargames Warehouse) and managed to find two really old school WD mags. I bought \'em only because they both featured articles written by none other than the man himself. Mike Mc Vey:) (I even brought these mags to Taiwan with me)

I was happy to hear that Mike is now working for Privateer Press and that his wife is apparently a great painter in her own right.

What a fortunate dood. Imagine it??? A girlfriend or wife who loves to ava paint.

Cooooooool:)

He\'s a very nice guy too I had the opportunity to meet him at a wargames convention a couple of years back he was on the Privateer Press stand which was when I first saw the IKWarmachine Range.

I am also fortunate to have every issue of White Dwarf and have followed his work from his earliest years, another of my favourites was Tim Prow.

ok, so this may sound totally fan-boyish, and I know she hates that, but Tammy was/is a long time motivation for me. I guess that makes her a hero to me, but I like motivational painter more, since that\'s a better description of it. She is one of the major reasons I kept painting and kept pushing to increase my skills. And even after discovering these boards, and interacting with her here, nothing I\'ve learned lessened this.

Ok, so is there a way to set a post to be invisible to a specific user (like tammy!!)? ???

I\'d have to say Victoria Lamb. It was when I saw her Fiery Angel that I realized what painting minis is all about.

too many to list...

I am a fan of a many types of styles, and on many different levels.

What I mean is that I respect serious artistic talent like Cyril, Victoria, etc. but I also have real respect for hobbyists who have a passion for what they do..(Primeval and his barbarians for instance). Also, I enjoy when miniatures are given character and seem more than what they are (rob lane is an example of this).

Here is a link to a similar thread, with a bunch of CMON users names everyone should check out...

Well my two favorit painters would be Arjay and jason richards.

Arjay has an awsome style, and I really like the cartoony look his minis have.
Jason richards always manages to give a very nice atmosphere to his minis. Plus I still don\'t understand how sombody can paint minis of that quality that fast :p

Thomas Barse - thomas on Coolminiornot I think.

What I really like is how dark his painting style is, with tons of different colours blending into each other to give some of the richest tones I\'ve ever seen. And he can sculpt/freehand/convert quite a bit as well :D.

Mike McVey. Top geezer:)

I was looking through some old Fantasy Miniatures books the other day. Whatever happened to Steve Blunt, David Soper, John Toyer, Adrian Wink, Mick Beard, Paul Robbins.....????

These guys entered some serious stuff into GD way back. Steve Blunt\'s Minotaur Lord/Mordax convo is still one of my all time favourite minis, and David Soper\'s Slayer Sword winning Predator started the whole Nurgle entry thing.

As for current stuff, there\'s too much quality being pumped out to pick out anyone in particular. Probably Anders for the colour palette he uses and the atmosphere it gives his minis. They\'re unique and that\'s difficult to do!

My current favorite is Lilliana Troy, mostly because she\'s local and has helped me out more than she knows. Her work is truly magnificent to see in person, which I get to do frequently. She is also a very open helpful lady that is more than willing to share ideas and techniques. There are many other out there that I have great respect for, but actually knowing one of the greats swings my vote.

Wow there are just too many to list. Their is an incredible amount of great painters on this site. But I do have to say that I am inspired by the recent work of EricJ. That Dark Maiden of his is incredible. :D
