i think this is it...
MITURGIDAE (CLUBIONIDAE), sac spiders
Black-footed Spider, Cheiracanthium mildei Sept/01, LaSalle. This small (10 mm) pale Mediterranean species is commonly found in buildings and homes.

If it\'s indeed a Mediterranean species, then there is more than global warming screwing up the insect populations in Canada :p

We\'re getting all kinds of bugs here that we didn\'t see before thanks to shorter/milder winters in some areas of the country. BC is getting hit hard by beetles and stuff that are killing all the massive forests in the mountains, and apparently in Alberta we get all the spiders.

Mike, you can\'t go too far wrong with something like, \"your end justifies the jeans\". Even your wife might forgive you. :) How to screw it up completely is wondering whether it\'s applicable to spazzy or not... :D

Gorgeous spider that, Wolf. Seen a couple similar around my place - they\'re always welcome. :) Heck, even black widows are welcome, only violin spiders will get erased. Can\'t think of anyone but Bill who\'s actually patient enough to identify the things to sub-species level though. Even then he\'d want to examine the exact shape of the male genitalia... nutter...

I would feel a little uncomfortable having little critters with the ability to kill me inside my place. What makes violin spiders exceptional, BTW? (Too lazy to google... :innocent: )

Black widow venom might be able to kill a small child, if the child is already very weak. Violin spiders have my prejudice, because; their venom is cytotoxic, a black widow\'s is neurotoxic. Few things fill me with horror as does tissue necrosis.

>>enjoy<< :|~

Ok, I can see why you don\'t want them inside your house... :|~

I still don\'t see why you\'re ok with black widows, but... it\'s your house! ;)

Spiders are just creepy, end of. One crawled across my desk last night and I nearly shite myself. That little bugger got the shoe.

I hate spiders, and we don\'t even have dangerous ones here in the UK, except those that survive transit on imported food.
The Isle of Wight is lousy with spiders. Couldn\'t put a mug down on the patio outside, without a spider making a web on it 10 minutes later. And that\'s no exaggerration. Some mornings, the honeysuckle looked like a chandelier from the webs and dew.

Is mainland England like that too?

Violin spiders like to be indoors. Widows prefer to stay outdoors. :)

eeeeee...how do you keep them from crawling all over you when you sleep?

We have widows and recluses here. Usually the widows like to live under the houses, so they find their way inside occasionally. The recluses are everywhere. I\'m not interested in looking closely enough to see if there\'s an hourglass on the black ones or a violin on the brown ones, I just kill them all. Well, I have my husband kill most of them, I kill a few. :D
