Now I just have to figure out how to use the damn thing. It\'s a Nikon D40. I\'m working my way through the manual but if any of you can get me started I\'d be ever so greatful. A grateful Lizcam is a very good thing for you, you know. ;)

My advice would be to buy one of these: Link

Having a camera manual is like having a car manual - it will teach you what the controls do but it won\'t teach you to drive it properly.

These DVD\'s are really good value for money - I had one for my D200 and learned a lot!

Nice Camera by the way - Can\'t go wrong with Nikon or Canon!

Hmm, I think I need one of those for my 400D. Yeah, the manual just tells you waht the buttons do but not really how to best utilize them.

Just tried searching for the D80 version on Amazon UK and guess what ???

Yep it doesn\'t exist here in the UK :(

Anybody ever tried ordering from Amazon.com with a UK address?

I\'m pretty sure I\'ve ordered some stuff from amazon.com, some dvds probably, with no problem. It just takes longer to be delivered is all. My account works for both .com and .co.uk.

Mine might as well in that case I have had the account for that long :)

I shall give it a try later in the week when I have a bit more time.

I got mine from this lot...

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Roys-Photographic_Training-DVDs_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZQ2d1QQfsubZ10794600QQftidZ2QQtZkm

it arrived next day - I recommended to a friend, she got hers next day too.

They really are pretty good DVDs if you\'re not a pro.

You guys are heartless bastards you know! :moon:

I did find out one thing as I was fumbling around with it. I can\'t see what I\'m doing in the display screen. I HAVE to use the view finder. I can\'t see for crap without my glasses and it\'s really hard to look through with glasses on. I guess I now have an excuse to get contacts! :D

I used my old camera, silly! I also have a camera from the early \'90\'s that uses actual film.

My GF has a nice Canon DSLR, I have never tried to take mini photos with it though. It\'s got a LOT of features ???

So does this thing. No idea how to work it but I\'ll slog through somehow. I think I\'ll pick up that book.

Nice machine!

Nikon make a wonderful(ly cheap) 60mm macro. Get that if you want to see some seriously impressive mini pics.

The AF-D version can be had cheaply on Ebay. Manual focus only on a D40, but that wouldn\'t matter for macro shots really.

Call it revenge for painting that picture of the tarantula migration. :p

Yes, with my camera you have to use the viewfinder as well but I find it\'s okay. There is a dioptic dial on it to adjust to poor eyesight but it\'s fairly limited and my eyesight is worse than it can compensate for. Maybe there\'s a larger viewfinder adapter thing you could get.
