Hey,

I'm new to CMON, been lurking now and then for years and decided recently to just sign up and start posting some of my pics

I've had a look at your gallery, for someone who's been painting around 2 years those are some good pieces.
If I were to give you one piece of advice it would be to ease up on dry brushing especially on anything white as that make the "Dusty/Chalky" appearance stand out.
Instead try to prime with White and glaze down soft pale blues to build up the shadow tone.

I see you live way out in the Shetlands Isles, so you probably dont have a huge group of painters or anyone close to give you some demo's, which is a pity as I think an hour sat alongside someone would give you an advantage.

I agree I need some serious work on my whites, I find it tricky to thin them to the right consistency so end up drybrushing instead of properly highlighting.

I'll admit left the hobby like 15 years ago and only got back into it 2 years... My painting was truly terrible back then though so I haven't counted it... I may post an old pic of one of my old pieces if I can find the photo just for giggles.

I've found the wealth of tutorials on YouTube to be incredibly helpful for getting me to the point I'm at now but I hope to continue improving.
You are also correct that living in Shetland limits my ability to meet up with better painters or even pay for some tuition.
