Hi, I\'m new on these forums and I\'m going to show you a few of my latest models to see what you think.

I have been painting for about 4 months now, so I\'m a relative begginer.

Well here they are.

Ok, welcome first of all!

criticisms...

I can see mold lines on the helmets.
The paint is too thick in areas.
The marine with the arm up looks very awkward.
The eyes look very....scary.
Flesh tones are a bit off.

Good color choice on the teal.
Very nice attention to some of the small details.
You\'ve got a decent looking table top squad ready for play!

Love the blue. I would recommend highlighting the blue a bit lighter. Them creepy eyes need work.

Its a good start. I remember when I first started painting I read every article I could find. I would suggest you read the skin tutes and the how to paint eye tutes. Highlighting and shading will help but for table top they are good. BTW the color scheme you picked is IMHO the best one to start with as black and white can be use to mix for highlight and shading and the easiest to get right. Good luck.

Damn, Ogrebane beat me to it! Read the tutorials on skin and faces/eyes, they are really helpful. Nice colour choice - seconded! Just some tiny tips on the metal: If I\'m correct, you washed the gold parts with brown ink. Thin this down with water a bit next time, then carefully line the edges again with the starting colour. Also, maybe apply a bit of thinned black ink to the silver parts (especially the mouth grates); this will add a bit of depth to it.

Everyone else nailed your painting +/-\'s, so I\'ll go for the photography. Your pics are a bit dark and I see some strong shadowing. Generally, 2 lights is minimum each shining down at about a 30 degree angle and off to the sides of the camera. A third light in the back to wash down on the mini and kill the remaining shadows is even better. Look at a portrait studio in the mall next time and notice their lighting. Recreate it in miniature.

The type of lighting matters as well. Standard incandesents are bad, too yellow. GE\'s Reveal bulbs are better, the blue tint helps kill the yellow. Halogen bulbs are even better as they give off a truer light.

Finally, check into a diffusion box if you wnat to get serious about taking good pics. See my sig for a homemade one or check on ebay for a pop up tent one.

You are off to a great start here and I am not knocking, just showing ways to improve. Keep at it. Enjoy it.
