Hidden votes

I was wondering if anyone else uses the hidden votes function when voting, so you can\'t tell what the average vote is before casting your own.
I\'ve found it to be quite liberating.

What thoughts have anyone else on this.

I don\'t use it...

...although lots of people do I think.I don\'t even look at the name of the submitter before I vote,it\'s just a habit now, though others say the vote colours their perceptions of the mini in question lol I\'ve never had that problem

I used to have hidden votes, but I stopped because I realized it was affecting my voting more than if I could see the current vote.

What I did was, looking at the mini, I subconciously started voting not on how I thought the ranked, but rather, I would vote trying to guess what I thought the mini would be ranked from others, and get as close as possible to that. For that reason I found myself typically voting with the crowd more when I couldn\'t see the score than now when I can. Odd.

Nop, I never though about checking the option to remove votes. But to some extend I do use the score of the mini, if I\'m torne between two votes and can\'t decide I usually look at the score and decide if I want it to be lowered or uped (not sure that is said correctly :p).

I vote with it hidden.
I find that my votes are more to my views than to others when I do this. And when the next page comes up, I am usually astonished at how far apart I am from the average vote.
for instance:

I voted with this hidden, and I thought it was a very good piece, but that the purple/ grey highlights looked a bit chalky for my tastes, especially on the tail. Also, not my favorite sculpt as the face really looks like an old crone to me.
Still, however, a good paint job. I voted an 8
I was indeed surprised to see that it the average was an 8.7 after I voted. I think that is too high.

Of course that is IMHO, but that was my original point .....

Wasn\'t it? ???

I always vote with the scores on \'hidden\'. I give the minis exactly what I think they should have, so for me it really doesn\'t matter if the mini has an avarage of 6,8 and I think it is a 5.

Now don\'t label me as a sniper. I have just experienced lately that I have gotten a lot more critical than before. This means that I also sometimes vote 1 higher if I think I have been a little too unfair.

*Lurch: That is a actually a great thing to use as an example you came with there!
I voted the mini with a 9. I liked it and I think the mini has exactly the score it deserves.

Each day I run into a lot of minis I think have an incorrect score. Either too high (mostly that) or too low. And other people might think it has a fairly score like I just did with the mini you didn\'t like.

So my opinion is, just give the mini what you think it should have instead of thinking about, what other people have given it!

i have used it for quite a while and think it keeps my votes honest. i noticed before i used it that i would vote with the score a lot but now i notice a lot of fluctuation between my vote and the score.

When I started out on CMON I could see the scores, and even when I tried to scroll down fast enough not to glimpse the score, I found myself subconciously voting closer to the average. I only know this because since they\'ve been hidden, some of my votes fluxuate wildly from the average, moreso than before.

And as far as sniping goes, I only consider someone a sniper if the mini is clearly a 8 to 10 quality and you give it a 1 or a 2. That\'s sniping. If something is at an 8 and you think it\'s a 6, not sniping.
I say that with much chagrin since my Witch Elf dared to show her pretty head in the Top Last 7 Days, and was hammered down within hours. Oh well. :flip:

I also keep my score hidden. I find that I am not influenced by the average. I also find that my vote is usually within a point of the average. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower.

@ Lurch I voted on that same mini before seeing this thread and I personally gave it a 9. I liked the transitions in the skin tones, and I liked the leather. I was not a big fan of the purple nipples though.

I have the scores shown probably cos I can and I dont vote on all the images coming up.I do pay attention to the score only if Im having trouble deciding myself.

I do think it would be a good idea to have the scores hidden for everyone until a vote is placed.

I dont mind users giving whatever score they think a mini deserves be it a 10 or a 1,as long as they genuinly believe that its worth what they are voting.

How about hidden usernames, now that would be good.
