Yay I finished a model! First time in about a year...
Finished one day before the competition he is painted for, here are the pictures.
Voting link is waiting to be accepted at the moment so I shall post a picture as well.

Sorry about the cut and shut quality of the picture, the first one I uploaded was too long evidently and was shrunk so small.

Voting Link!

I will drop him off at the store tomorrow and by 3pm should know the result, fingers crossed eh!

I would love to hear your opinions on this piece, especially tips and critique on the gold nmm and freehands - those are my weakest points in my mind. I also didn\'t post a picture of his full base as it is just purple marble on top of a wooden block (to protect him against greasy finger attackers!)

Thanks!

Looks great! With the awesome quality of the NMM, i would have thought a few other areas could have done with a little more work to bring them up to the same standard. In particular, the cloak at the back looks a little roughly blended, and the lion pelt could perhaps do with some more colour transition from top to bottom.

Not major criticisms, a great mini, but you asked :D

Thanks for the comments, I shall take those on board on my next project.

I won with this fella in the fantasy single competition and got a lovely golden nurgling statue :D! He now sits in the Colchester store for a while. The sad news is that I missed out on the Slayer Spoon award :p

Okay then, honest critique here we go.

NMM

the gold nmm needs the contrast boosting, both with shadows and highlights. make sure the glare spots real stand out (pure white) as this is what gives the bling effect (look at razza\'s nmm to see what i mean)
comapre the contrast on the gold to that of the axe head, the axe has lots of contrast and has the right effect to imitate metal.

CLOAK

the rear of the cloak isn\'t blended that well, it needs smoothing out more. just a little more time spent on this and it will improve the effort you have put in 100%

try to push the highlights a little more, you have the depth but the highlights need pushing more to give the needed contrast.

FUR

the fur on the rear is quite flat, try to add some depth with a few controlled brown washes placed into the shadows, this will add depth, too much and it will start to make it look dirty which is very un high elf like.
you can always bring out the highlights again afterwards.

sorry to make it sem harsh but i wanted to keep it brief and you said you wanted constructive critisism. :)

Not harsh at all, thanks for the post. I\'ll definetly use this to improve my later work.
