High Elves Dragon Princes

I am currently working on a unit of High Elf Dragon Princes, I have put them on a display base and am unsure what to add to them next or how to improve them.

I would love to here what you guys think I should do to improve them.

Here\'s what they currently look like:

got any closeups?

a few things jump out at me:
banner and shields are plain, maybe some sort of insignia on them would break up teh blank space

also the banner looks a bit dark for a high elf banner (i always imagine them to be a spangly white)

the metallics (esp the horses barding) could do with some more contrast

overall the contrast is lacking (needs more shadow)

the bases are plain and boring (not meaning to be rude, but they are no different to what people do when they can\'t be arsed)

the grass needs some brown and green washes with a khaki dry brush to add a little more depth and stop it looking like 2-3mm strands of nylon.
add some more interesting bits to the base as well (both plinth and figures bases)
broken weapons/shields, shrubs and undergrowth will add a lot to it and won\'t take long with practice.
even just using silflor tufts would add a lot more than just the static grass.

pigment powder over the soil areas adds a nice dry texture as well and is realy easy to use.

hope that helps.

I had a little time free this evening so I started to make a few changes to these models, I am concentrating on getting the scene to look correct first then I will move on to touching up the painting. I have added a number of shields, helmets, arrows and the like and will be adding some more foliage in the near future.

let me know if you think I am heading in the right direction.

here\'s the pic:

A little tip. Add a darker metal colour (boltgun metal or something) to the under half of the blades) That should give them a little more depth. Its so simple but adds so much more with little effort ;)

aaah, mould lines!!
on the back of the ponies :)
its a good idea to try to rectify that, even though you have painted the horses allready :S

Apart for the mold lines I think those are looking great. Great contrast. Only thing I can suggest is maybe either dull down the blue on the metallics on the lances or try and incorporate a bit more of it on the helmets. Great base as well. Some patches of static flock may add a bit more to it as well.
