Highlighting black power armor

I sometimes use midnight blue, and then midnight blue mixed with a little white or fortress grey. And if you\'re going to use shadow gray then you should try black and shadow for your first layer instead of the midnight. It might help to tie it in together a bit better for you.

I reckon it could be since colours can look different when applied in thin layers....besides...he\'s not going to lie about that....is he? 
Yep, any of the above examples would work. I tend to use the blues for anything that might have a magical property and the codex grey for normal stuff. Bleached bone also looks good when added to the mix.

As the man said, shadow grey/spacewolf. MUCH better then codex/fortress, they have a hint of blue (just a hint).

Darkartminiatures is correct too, bleached bone makes a nice \'warm\' highlight.

If you look at my chaplain in my gallery I used those same colors on the black armor. I also find that black armor looks best when painted with metallic highlights unlike the edging that most people do.

Shadow Grey could be found on the Sarge\'s hips, but but for the Puppies Grey... never used it, so... ???

If you\'re replying for Mr Munkie, so you also might make an appointment for him. Would he mind taking the next plane to Germany just for taking the pics of my (ridiculously bad) painted minis? :bouncy:

Why do you use blueish highlights at all? IMHO it looks awkward. On one of the first two minis I ever highlighted (just one month ago; you know, Iron Hands... was eager to play... black primer, slapping on some paint on half the minis... for the Emperor; they are the hands of justice, not the hands of haute couture) I used Shadow Grey (or is GW just running out of appropriate names for their blues ??? )... even if you mix SG and CB, it\'s still blue... but I want to play IH\'s, not some very dark Ultras... Codex Grey is indeed a stark highlight on black armour, but IMO it fits better then the blueish stuff. Those Space Marines keep their equipment nice and tidy, so it\'s gleaming...

Ive recently done a mini that has a lot of black and i used codex - fortress and to be honest it looks flat and boring unlike using shadow - space wolf, so ill be re-doing it.

Just a suggestion if you don\'t want a blueish highlight, or a stark grey highlight: on some of my skaven models I highlighted over a black basecoat with vallejo model color:bronze green. Add a bit of bonewhite to the mix for a final highlight then do a number or very thin washes of black paint where you would normally shade, to help blend the bronze green blend into the black.
