Highlighting Facial Hair

Hello, I was checking some posts on a WIP blog (Can\'t remember which...) and there was a tip given to \"Highlight the beard of the model in Rings as opposed to highlighting the strands of the beard.\"

Could anyone shed any insight into this, or point me towards a mini with this technique in place? I\'ve always done the individual strands and I am curious to investigate another take on this. Thanks to anyone who can offer advice!

If I had to guess I\'d say that they are talking about the same effect as shown in the picture below. Note how the highlights go perpindicular to the strands for the most part. It was almost be highlighting hair in a NMM style. Highlighting the strands makes the hilights vertical and takes some of the sheen away.

Anyway, my best guess as to what they mean:

Thanks for the response, Yes that \"Beijing Belle\" picture shows off a little of what I think wa being described, but that red haired picture must surely be it. Thanks so much!

BTW the forum was here at the project blogs for a dwarf model. It was recent but I couldn\'t find it when I looked. I\'ll try doing something with this info, and thanks both for the references again.

Yes ti sure was... What a co-in-ky-dink. Thanks very much. But that leads into another question...

The highlighting hair technique looks great on an individual model but how do you feel about a ranked up unit done with this highlighting techinique? I\'m gonna give it a try anyway but I\'m not sold on the idea unless I use the same light source angles on each indiciual model, which I am never a real fan of.

I am eager to try it, and I\'m starting this morning on some Ironbreakers and some Slayers. We\'ll see I suppose.

Dwarfs with a good supply of nutrigloss shampoo.. I guess on a unit the key is to carry the light right across the unit cosistently...

:no: Never heard of a BEER shampoo? lol

Can\'t see why applying this wouldn\'t work on a unit. In fact as I think about it it could make ranking the figures up a bit easier, if it\'s done the right way.
