(i must stop asking how to do skin but any way.....)


for salute i am going to do a historic 54mm mini. i\'ve picked a model. and now all i need to do is paint it.

i can be bothered to go to my room and find the name but its kinda saxon, viking kinda wild.

i was wongering if anyone could sugest how to do dirty grimy skin in GW colours?

You probably ought to find out what exactly he is as there\'s quite a bit of difference between a Saxon and a Viking.

He\'s rather nice.

I don\'t really have any advice on the skin as I tend to mess it up when I try to do detailed skintone as a result of not seeing the red component properly.

If you are going for the buckler option as opposed to the second axe however I can point you in the direction of some rather nice shield designs to paint on it. Littlebigmen studios have plenty of dark age shield designs. The thing to bear in mind is that 5th C. Saxon raiders were all pagans so steer clear of crosses.

i want the skin to be kind of grimy like he has just come off the field (but no blood(i s**t at it))

bloods the easiest part. get some tamys clear red and put it on after varnishing. i\'d splatter it on him with an old tooth brush to maker it look liek he\'s had a good old fight!

If you\'re going for realism the blood would just soak straight into his clothes and just appear as a dark stain. Personally I wouldn\'t bother and stick with general muck. Thease guys weren\'t exactly known for their personal hygene so he would likely be filthy before he even got to the battlefield.
