i\'d go for the job. you can then quit a few days before games day and then compete!! thats after having bought a load of stuff at staff prices. what job is it by the way?

Hummm well depends if you need a job or not. but quit frankly I don\'t see the deamons as beeing something that great, just another High end contest. You could always try and win in another contest ( or give yourself a rank to attain on CMON). Objectives to attain aren\'t that difficult to find in the mini world. So if you need the job, go for the job.

I would think it comes down to why you enjoy painting? Some people just love the process, spending the 8 hours a day with a brush creating, some like the challenge to produce better and better work, thus the end result is the target rather than the process as much.

I think those in the first catagory would excel at the GW or other industry painting job, while those in the 2nd might not feel satisfied working 8 hours a day on someone elses color scheme, and without really getting to take all the time you\'d want on a project.

I suppose it also depends on how you feel about the job, and how much you have an option to turn down a job. I know personally I would hate painting for my job, as I use painting as an escape from work, so I\'d hate to lose that. It also helps I have a better job I enjoy so I don\'t have to worry about making money with my painting.

So personally this type of job sounds nice to me, but I know I would hate it in a short ammount of time. Since I\'m the type who does what to push myself and enjoy that challenge rather more than simply the process of painting (which I do of course enjoy as well, I\'d just miss the pushing myself part). I also have golden demon dreams, I\'d hate to let those go before I tried, and one day gotten my sword ;)

Well I don\'t know if that helps, as it\'s rather more just how I would relate to the situation, but good luck on your decision!

I would agree with the above. There are always other opportunities for competition, but opportunities to be able to work in an area that you are interested in are fewer and farther between for most. Also, I don\'t know if things have changed since my contact with GW staff (mid 90\'s to around 2001 or so), but turnover can be pretty high as well. I say take the opportunity while it\'s there, since it also means that you\'ll have more resume material for future jobs in the industry. A friend of mine started off painting statues and things for Wizards of the Coast, and now he helps develop games and things for another company. So don\'t necesarilly think of it as being with GW for the rest of your life either. ^_^

@eric:what you say sounds logical to me especially the part about how diffirent people look at painting and how some enjoy the creation and taking there time on there models...thats me right there and i presume a lot of people think the same way about there models and such,on the other hand what has also been said has truth to it to ,that i\'m not stuck at games workshop forever, and i could always work my butt off for the open comp to if i realy want it,it can be viewed as a nother sort of competition and drive to make even more spectacular models etc(altough it\'s not easy to comrehend),threfore i will be thinking even harder on this ,and will try to make up my mind;),i would like to thank all of you that have given me these tips and advice so far this is ecactly what i like about this site that everyone (well allmost),is so understanding towards people who are is some way a little lost... tnx guys......ps sorry for my english i am only a half breed(half english/dutch:)

depends on what the job is...

They tend not to notice retail staff who arent working on the day entering ;) I know someone who may have done it a couple of times ;);)

Also, the rule about no staff members may be changing in the UK... but that is only a \'maybe\'

go for the job :flip:
i know many peoply working at gw quite well and come on, where else do you get money for painting minatures and playing games?
plus, the discound for employees is obscene and you get most things pre release
the cons are: no gd exept for the staff cat and many many strange people you have to get along with ;)
furhtermore, leaving out one gd isnt goind to kill you and i recommend you stop \"dreaming\" about a demon that much
imagine what you\'ll think after you entered but didnt win anything and therefore lost the job and all the advantages
just my 2 cents :bouncy:

Granddad!
If you are young & single, take the job, but be prepared:
You will never have a weekend to yourself while you are there :(
You will be constantly badgered by13-16 yr olds
Painting mini\'s in store is only a small proportion of the job in fact it comes last in the list of priorities; Customers, Stock, Cleaning, Painting (or it should if the store is being run according to \'Codex\')
Your personal painting will suffer, not in quality that may improve, but in quantity. Especially if you\'ve been painting a mini you really like in-store
thats enough of the negative
Good stuff;
you get to see/order stuff before it\'s on general release
The Staff discount is VERY generious (after your 3 month probation) :flip:
you WILL accumulate an excessive amount of mini\'s (because you CAN! :D )
BUT whatever you do please, please, DO NOT take mini\'s home to paint
Disclaimer:
the above is based on personal experiences & in no way indicates a universal trend within GW stores :D
