Actually, old wooden ships in the dead sea often turn up utterly mint due to the lack of microbial (or any other) life to eat them away.

Still, what a lucky find!

Way cool! If you guys like ship wreck stories, you should read \"Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea\". It provides a really cool description about how they developed the technology for deepwater wreck discovery and salvage.

I have to admit as a historian and an archeologist I\'d like to see her raised and placed in a museum, not left on the bottom as a \"war grave\". But I guess I have a more pragmatic view of human remains than most - I don\'t really find them all that holy.

I also find the view that to dig up the graves of non European peoples is perfectly acceptable, but to dig up dead Europeans is somehow violating a grave is just totally F**ked.

Saw that news on Teletext lastnight.
Lloyd you know I\'d never given what you said about European graves, a thought until your comment.
And you are right, there is a very marked double standard about the treatment of burial sites.

Ran into it a lot when I went back and worked on my second degree - Course we also had a bunch of \"liberal\" anthropology majors who thought they were showing their connections to oppressed native peoples by saying things like \"If you want to dig up their grandparents you should have no problem digging up your own.\" To which my response was, \"I don\'t. Just make sure you get the permits, cause I\'m not going to come bail your hippie ass out of jail.\"

Which was not the response they were looking for.
