I recon that our obsession with miniatures is a far less disturbing one than obsessing over a real person as the "Cult of Celebrity" from the media would have us do.

QUESTION: Would you class (or consider) as obsessive behaviour, street "Bible Bashing"?
Had a minor run in with a bunch yesterday, hence the question.

Hmmm...That is a tough one. I know that Christians are supposed to spread the word, but I do find that a little over the top. My parents are both ministers and they are so extreme that they will not touch a container with alcohol. I once threw out some beer cans that the neighbor’s kids left in the vacant lot next to their house they freaked out. I think that is obsessive.

At least you just get the Christians, we have a Scientology headquarters in Poole, si it's proper tin foil hat time down here.
Sorry just had mental image of Tom Cruise trying to harrass you.
Tom Cruise v BIG MIKE.
As for "Bible Bashers" harrassing me, I have a good way of shutting them up now.
I just tell them "Matthew, Chapter 6, Verse 5".
Nominally polite, but you should see the look of confusion of their faces when I say that.
A touch of schadenfreude for me. (OK I'm evil, I know, so what?)

on a similar topic, does anyone have any advice or strategy about how to approach tackling a huge backlog of minis? I think I probably have 500+ minis that I have bought over the last 2 years. Im loathed to ebay anything, but when I open the wardrobe the thought of how Im going to paint them all is intimidating to say the least. I have forbidden myself from buying anything else until I paint what I have, but still cant come up with a sensible plan how to get them done.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I expect I am not the first person faced with mini-overload syndrome! :rotfl:

Base coat of clothing, skin, and hair, then dip FTW! Probably could get 7-8 an hour that way.

Won't be that nice looking, but still: painted.

But more seriously? One at a time, or it's eBay for the lot. That leads to what might even be a better suggestion. Go through the whole pile, and keep just 1 out of 10. I remember that tip from the show where they clean up someone's clutter (not Hoarders; can't recall). You'll be down from 500 to 50 minis, which is easier to paint.

I think the difference between collecting and hoarding is that you buy the stuff you collect, hoarding is keeping stuff that you should throw away.

Depends on how much they hound you. If they're just preaching in the street (though I don't agree with it) then not - if they hassle you and won't let you get on with your day then yes. Personally - everybody is entitled to believe what they want, just don't try and force your ideas on me :)

I don't want to even think about how many mini's I've got. Bearing in mind I've been buying/collecting since issue 150 of White Dwarf (whenever that was).

Tonight I'm actually going to start going through my cupboard of mini's and sorting out the ones that I'm never going to get round to using for my girlfriend to sell on eBay as she's down for at least the rest of the week. I'm hoping that with a bit of effort I can clear out a huge amount even if I only get a few quid for them.

For me I tend to try and do modelling & miniature assembling during the winter and painting during the summer (when there is more natural light). I generally sort out what I intend to make over the winter just after Games Day and then have a mass undercoating session as the first nice spring days arrive.

...

I do suggest first look for the CMON crew! I'm sure I'm keen on a bunch of your cool old metal stuff and a few quid wouldn't do them justice. Arrange them into 1.99kg groupings to simplify shipping

Hehe, in fairness some of the bits will end up on here before ebay. It dawned on me last night that I have a whole Imperial Guard Praetorian army (infantry element anyway) which I might have to part with...

on the subject of hoarding, i had quiet the scare when i moved recently, moving from my parents 550 square metre house to a dorm of 20 sq metres really was freaky! throwing away all the minis i painted when i was like 10 wasa bit nostalgic:p
