Pretty sure there was an earlier article that noted that the 2nd film would be a new work and would be a sequal to the hobbit and tie it closer to Lord of the Rings. Just do a google on Hobbit Part 2 and you will find lots of people guestimating on what content will be in part 2.

Its easy..

one movie=$500 million

2 movies = $1 billion

they will get you coming and going..

and in reality it will be more..cause when they release part two you know theaters across the world will do double features for those of us with no lifes what so ever lol

The Hobbit would be big enough to break right in two, and have two serviceable films.

I hope they do it that way, and not cut stuff out.

Okay, two films seems to be the wont! I can\'t say I\'d be grumbling. But again, the sequel to The Hobbit that was mentioned: is it rooted in Tolkien\'s own written history of Middle Earth or will it be speculative?

it will be interesting to see how they do the \'feel\' of the movie. the hobbit is much more child-like in its writing and shows its roots as a kids book, i wonder if they will keep it in that sense or go for a darker feel to suit lotr more.
plus cant wait to see smaug, he\'s best character in it!!

That\'s what all the debate online is about. Nothing official has been announced so the net is filled with speculation. It seems the concensus is that it\'s going to be totally new material but based on Tolkiens work. It has me worried somewhat, but as other\'s have noted I will be going to see it either way.

I read in one of the film mags they are going to pad the Hobbit fim out with information recorded in the appendices at the end of the LOTR book.
There is events going on recorded there that run parallel to the Hobbit saga that can be easily woven in .This info deepens our understanding of people like Beorn, Bard and some of the other characters.
Also Tolkien wrote the Hobbit with children in mind ,nearly all the references to combat are kept quite low key.Boost those scenes in the book for cinema and you will probably 2, 3hour films is only just enough !:flip: :bouncy:
On a pesonal note I cant wait to see the Lycanthrope Beorn in action. I read the book 35 yeaars ago and he is still one of my all time favourite Tolkien characters;)
Roll on the MOVIES !!!:flip: !!!! :bouncy:

Tolkien minis are a millstone around G.W.s neck at the moment.
I wouldnt be surprised if they didnt go near Hobbit minis with a barge pole.
Though happy to be proved wrong, :D
