Hobbits- Now 6,2 ????

Hi to everyone,

i have postet my new Minis on CoolMini and they rated now every time lower, from 7,7 to 6,8 and now to 6,2. Every time i have a look, they are lower....

What have i done wrong on this minis?

I have painted up to 20 Layers of very thin paints and worked very long on this four Hobbits. Are the Pics bad ????

its the photos i think, i posted a comment and gave you an 8. i think the LOTR models come in for a lot of harsh criticism. check out the Gandalf on my gallery....it barely gets a 6.5.

Those are very well Done. I don\'t think some of the \"voting public\" has any appreciation for the effort involved in these and the true scale they actually are. I saw somebody put a GW paint bottle in a shot of some small miniatures and it really helped give it a sense of scale. These are really small minis (is that redundant???), and you have done a great job of making them look very clear. Not an easy task

Perhaps it´s the normal base not an round one, but my friend (i have painted the Minis for him) want this bases.

Hmmm. I like the weathering on the cloaks and the details are all nice. I gave you a 7 for them.

They are very well done...that\'s obvious...

Two observations though:

Firstly, the photo is flat and washed out looking. You also can\'t see much detail. I think \'auto levelling\' on any basic image program might sort this out.

Secondly, you either love GWs LOTR stuff or hate it. There are a lot of people who hate it......They might not snipe you, but they probably wont take the time to look closely either.

I think your hobbits are very good! I voted 8 on them. Finn\'s right about the photo. You should have bigger pics so that more of the detail is shown and fix the levels as well. But, IMO the hobbits are very well painted and it\'s shame some people dislike LOTR minis.

You are right about the Photo. I have played a bit with Photoshop and the Pic is better now, thanks a lot. Please refresh the Explorer and you can see the better pic. Thanks for all comments this will help to improve my pics on Coolmini..... and you are right about LOTR a lot of People do not like it at all...... Markus

I just saw them, so don\'t think I saw the old picture, but I agree that they\'re getting the shaft.

Left a comment there for ya. Possibly one of the other things that\'s knocking down your score is that, because of the montage (sp?), you can\'t really make out any details. You might get higher ratings (and then again, might not) by posting them separately with larger pictures.

Just out of curiosity, what was the starting score on them?.

More often than not, when people notice that a mini has only 1 vote and already a high mark, they feel compelled to snipe a bit. In any case, time will eventually level up the scores.

First many thanks to all, on the next Minis i will have bigger Photos. On this i want all four Hobbits on one Photo, but you are right, the details will not be visible with so much miniatures.

Mark, welcome to the boards.

As for pics, consider putting them vertical instead of horizontal. That way the pixel width limit does not limit the inidividual mini.

But I would rather vote on the four of them individually so you get a better ranking (average of your top 3 (?) minis after they have 50 votes).

And, despite the fact that I gave it an 8, I would hazard a guess that 6.5 to 7.5 is about it\'s ceiling on this site, unless you re-shoot.

LOTR always underscore

I can share with you a few \"truths\" here as I see it...

1) There will always be an active forum about bad scoring.
2) LOTR models tend to be downgraded due to some bias out there against them.
3) Rackham models tend to be overscored since people vote on the sculpts rather than the painting far too often.

Personally, I think this is the best group of hobbits I have seen in quite some time, and I agree that they should have a much higher score, but I also know the reality of LOTR scoring since many of my pieces tend to be scored low as well. Some of my work have won local competitions and barely get a 6 here. Like I have said in nearly all of these \"scoring forum\", paint for fun and personal satisfaction and you will always be happy. Good job, you should be proud of your hobbits !!!!!!!

I know this is not anywheres near \"Golden Daemon\" caliber but I also fell that it is better than the score reflects....but I haven\'t lost any sleep due to it, that\'s just life, right?

I thought it looked great myself. It might be hobbits themselves, because there is less of them to impress people. The only thing I noticed was the outlining of the buttons on the green vest. But the shading on the cloak is fantastic.

Bravehart712/ Right, i have seen this too. Rackham are allwas in the higher Regio, i play not LOTR but i love to paint the Minis. Much of them have good details and looks like the real actor from the Movie.

Tzor/ Many thanks the cloaks was very timeconsuming, lots of very thin layers and glazes to sooften it. Think it was 23 Layers of Paint. In this photo you can not see much detail on the hobbits, right.

Still, i\'d have liked to see a bigger pic of them: i think that putting them in vertical would help!

i know how hard is to paint lotr stuff and xpecially hobbits, as they\'re so tiny!

people don\'t realize how tiny the LOTR minis are, especially those hobbits! when you post a pic, they think it\'s the same size as the regular GW minis - i.e the Catachans, Space Marines etc... In my opinion, you get an 8 for sure, if not more.
