Hobbits...

I may as well post my \'Frodo\' from yonder ago...

Hobbit Guy

I\'m sorry for the lack of updates, indeed I finished this miniature in April sometime and haven\'t managed to finish a complete model since, perhaps due to exams and such. Oh yeah, and something to do with converting models for what would be a Black Templar force, although two models does not constitute an army...

Anyway, this model was converted from the Mount Doom version of Frodo, the one where he looks a bit worse for wear. I have neatened him up and given him a lantern, as well as a hat, in true Hobbit fashion.

It\'s a good life...

Not a big fan of LOTR minis, but this is really good. Very naturalistic. In fact, if it wasn\'t for the big, hairy feet that Hobbits have this could be Jim Hawkins it looks so good.

(I\'m about to paint a mini with a lantern. How did you paint that subtle \"lighted lamp\" affect?

Thank you kindly; I\'ll have to do a search for these people that the guy looks like lol.

The lamp was very simple to do. Basically, I used a yellow base coat, and highlighted up to near white on the main part.

On the metal, though, I used the thinest of yellow ink washes to give the impression that light was shining through, and also drybrushed very carefully the edges closest to the sources in that near white colour.

I think that there are better examples than my own for source highlighting- it was a first time for me, so please don\'t hold on to what I said as something difinitive- I\'d look around at some of the other artist\'s work, plus I believe that there is an article on it somewhere?

Thanks again.

Sorry! My English education.

Jim Hawkins, from Treasure Island by Daphne DuMaurier. Great novel.

And thanks for the tip on the lighting affect. I was after something like this.
