Hobby Related Podcasts

Hi all, anyone listening to any hobby related podcasts?

I've been enjoying the Bad Dice Podcast - a WHFB Tournament centred show, runs 1-2 hours, UK based. The two Bens natter on about games, tournaments, painting, conversions & getting very drunk. I find it perfectly listenable to background chatter, particularly nice during the recent election campaign when regular broadcast media gave up on any variety for 6 weeks! I don't play WHFB, let alone at tournaments but am familiar enough with GW product & their d6 rules to be able to make sense of it all. The monthly White Dwarf review can be amusing, the guys are close enough to Nottingham to have a good handle on rumours of forthcoming releases & they aren't so GW Fanboyish that they aren't prepared to slag off crap when it's deserved. Dipping or Golden Demon level painting, there's no snobbishness, just enthusiasm!

I want to try something else to fill the odd hour, any recommendations?

Cheers, B.

I really like:

Iron Agenda (Warmachine and Hordes)
THACO (Guys that made Fellcalls but talk about RPGs amongst other things)
Podhammer (WHFB)

I stopped listening to D6 Generation and trying so hard to like it (good content and varied).. I dunno, those guys are far to pretencious for me and their podcast is 3+ hours long.

Thanks guys, I have the 2 part Hasslefree interview from Meeples & Miniatures downloaded & a Beastman episode of Podhammer. I shall report back later in the week! And then try some of the others. I can feel myself turning away from the 40k one automatically but seeing as I don't play WHFB & still enjoy listening to bods chat about it, I really mustn't let that put me off!

Cheers, B.

It's taken a while to get around to following up but I did dip into some podcasts.

I continue to find The Bad Dice Podcast completely listenable too. The Bens can be a bit soft on GW & seem to bite their tongues occasionally but it's not so sycophantic as to spoil the bantery atmosphere & they couldn't care less about things like only using GW minis. Despite the fact that the 8th ed. box is going to have crumby static High Elves in the box, I am thinking of picking it up come September. Despite owning 2nd Ed. & having read the book many times I've never actually played. I think I have enough minis to put together small Dwarf, Wood Elf, Beastman & Orc/Goblin armies plus a mate has full Skavan & High Elf that he used to game with, I'll see how flush I feel later in the year!

Meeples & Miniatures - I downloaded the pair of episodes that were an interview with Kev & Sally White of Hasslefree Miniatures. The content was great, despite the fact that HF recently changed their business model (expansion) you get a good sense of what they're about. A thoroughly delightful company to send money to is the impression given (backed up my single ordering experience so far). The compression rate of the MP3 was a bit low & I didn't settle into it over time, it sounded clippy throughout. Good for my feeble 3G internet connection but a shame for listenability. Too much interviewer breathiness too. I think he was poorly & it was an "out of studio" interview too so hopefully not indicative. I haven't downloaded any further episodes but do intend to.

Podhammer - tried an episode. Australian. The gaming content was fine. The "humourous" songs & interludes were just incongrous. Not very funny though I'd have enjoyed it when I was a young teenager I suspect, in an "oh, how naughty & rebellious kind of way". No interest in listening to that again. If you find BBC Radio 1 bearable you might like it I suppose?

Haven't tried the others mentioned yet but I shall bump this thread again if I do :)

Cheers, :beerwave: B.
