holidays in ireland - who has tips or advices

Hello everyone

it´s official - my professor told us wednesday that he got the the money for a scientific field trip to ireland - to the university of gallway in the area of connamae to be exactly.

And since it´s only a week and we get paid, i have the money to stay a litlte bit longer :cool:.

i want to ask if someone here is from ireland and has some tips on how i could spend my holidays. hobby related tips would be very appreciated:D

yes you can drink it for that long!!

haven\'t been to gallway so i can\'t really give you any advice tbh! dublin is nice (although over priced and swarming with foreigners - most of the workers seem to be eastern european) but i prefer cork. if you get there go to a little restaurant called the strasbourg goose. looks as weird as it sounds but has great atmosphere and better food!

the dingle peninsula was lovely too, very beautiful

i will try to get there.

maybe i will stay for a day or two in Dublin too - i don´t care that it is swamped with tourists since i´m a tourist myself lol

and i know it´s expensive - my brother somehow manged to see see a billy talent concert in dublin last year - 6 bucks for a beer thanx a lot :drunk:

Galway is great one of the best \"city spots \" in Ireland......Fish and chip shop at the top of the main street (name escapes me) is fecking spectacular generally with about 9 types of fish available...They are a big Fishing area and seafood is great..Oyster festival is a real joy but I believe hat\'s round september...
Great thing about Galway is it\'s fairly central so easy to get to various areas wether it\'s further north to Mayo and the west coast or down to Dublin...shopping is great atmosphere great and the pubs bloody marvellous.....
My missus is from Mayo and we go over to Ireland roughly every 6 weeks and no matter how long we go for we do end up drinking the whole time.....:drunk: It\'s a national past time and despite negative stereotypes they do it quite well...
Guiness is fantastic but can get heavy going try Special...It\'s Smithwicks with a top of guiness (I think special is a mayo term but the\'ll know what you mean) I find it a great easier to drink break from the guiness occasionally....

Other than maybe taking photos of barren landscape as reference for groundwork I can\'t think of anything else!

Ah,so it´s Connemara - sorry my gaelic is a bit rusty lol

thanks for your tips. i googled some pics from that area and i must say i´m pretty exited

and the weather - last year´s summer here in Berlin was so chilly and rainy ( compared to the normal temperatures of ´bout 25 - 30 degree ) that i won´t mind if the weather is not that sunny or warm. in fact i wanted to use a bike to visit some of the castles over there ( reference for future terrain ), so lower temperatues would be nice

When in Dublin, go to a cool pub called the Hairy Lemon. Also, Isaac\'s Hostel is an affordable place to stay that\'s not too far from the centre. The Guinness museum is cheesy but fun- fantastic views from the top. Not cheap, but you do get a complimentary pint of the black stuff at the top.

I second the suggestion to pray for good weather. Or at least, the weather of your choice!

I\'d have agreed until last Saturday! We went into an O\'Neills in Leeds (it was the only pub not full of Leeds Utd scum...) and the Guinness was by far and away the best I\'ve had over here - on a par with stuff I had in Dublin certainly.

Whether it was just fresh, or the fact that they pulled and rested the pint perfectly I don\'t know. Guinness is definitely one of the main reasons to go to Ireland - wonderful stuff! If you\'re in Dublin, get yourself to the old Jamesons Distillery as well. I love Jamesons - one of the finest (mass-market) blends known to man!

Oneills in Leeds is a good drop as it goes....There\'s also the world beer bar not far from it that does a good pint.The best is just outside the centre at the Irish Centre....Als in June/July they d the Irish Festival where the guiness flows freely and that is a right laugh....

I play Gaelic Football for a team and we have plenty of good times on the guiness up there ..Part of the training you know..

If you will stay in Galway, I\'d take my time for a day to the Aran Islands. They are really beautiful and wild, their desolate landscapes gave me a lot of inspiration.
And try to visit the cliffs of Moher too, not too far from Galway. If you have a car you head south on the coast road toward Limerick and you\'ll find them easily. Doing so you\'ll cross the Burren, which is by sure where tolkien took inspiration from for Mordor. Don\'t miss these 3 spots!

i must say from what i can see on the pics i just googled, the aran islands are impressive - and there are ways for bicycles:) - seems my plan will work, at least this part

i only hope i will got enough money to fligh back once i saw all that places

i know i should be blown away by the amazing landscape, but all i can think of is

\"why has the right sheep on that one photo a blue head\" :D

is this some marking for a vaccination or something like that ??

:D If I were way younger and had the money.... I would love to rent one of those horse drawn gypsy caravans tours....travel the back ways of Ireland and visit many of the old pagan sites.

hey you can still do it. i mean you would sit all the time in a comfortable coach - so you woudn´t have to walk a lot.

and for the money - try to buy less minis :beer:. it would be a sacrifice, but wouldn´t it be worth it

by the way . i know i might be much too curious , but looking at your nickname , are you into wicca ?
