Hope

I dont normally do this, but would like to get as much feedback as possible.

I am going to start more comp only minis, and this was my first.
So in an attempt to try and break into the placings one day I an looking for critique.

Here I present my Salute 2010 entry 'Hope'

It did well going on to the final table and after a quick chat with a judge found out it got down to the last four.

So let me know what you think.

So no comments! It must have lots of areas for improvment. Otherwise it would have a score of 9.8 +

The armor looks slightly chalky to me. not really liking the upper blades either, they don't have the same contrast as the lower ones. Might just be the camera also. I really like the base, and the pose. Very nice piece.

Saw this only now ... a great looking miniature in my opinion (this being one of my favourite sculpts doesn't hurt ). I like the limited palette you used. The bone coloured blades really stand out and look excellent. Mind telling me which colours you used?

As far as improvements go ... as I said I really like what you have done here ... still, despite using a limited palette I fell that using a skin colour in the mix for the skin would have made everything look a little more interesting. Just a subtle hint to suggest that it was (is?) human skin a long time back.

The red on the head and the SENMM effect on the visor are growing on me, but to be honest with the red and the dirty bone colour below my first reaction was 'why is she wearing a Santa hat?' ...

The base looks good too. Nice overall composition with the Cyborg killer, the rose and the apt title 'Hope'. The torn posters on the wall look good. Maybe you should have added a (smaller) poster to the front too. The one thing on the base I don't like so much is the grey sand / dirt / rubble. In my opinion it is a bit too monotone. Maybe a few bigger stones and some coloured washes to make it a bit more interesting would haven been a good idea.

My suggestions are nit-picking though. An excellent miniature you should be proud of

Dont worry about nit picking, that's what I need.

The blades were over a white undercoat. The base colour is VMC Middlestone, with just white added for highlighting, up to pure white. I hen went back and used glazes to shade the blade with VMC Flat Earth. finally I gave some weathering with VMC Green Blue very liberally though. Oh and a few dents and scratches were done with black.
