Hi, does anybody have any tips on paiting a horse, specifically Eomer\'s horse which can be viewed here:

Thanks in advance,

It\'s quite tricky to see from the pic, but If it was me, I would basecoat it in a midtone, possibly codex grey with a little blue or purple thrown in. Then apply the shading using the same mix but darker and finally put on the highlights by applying gradual lighter highlights on the high spots of all the muscles etc... also make the top of the horse lighter and blend it into the shanks etc..

One other thing, use a good size brush, not only is it quicker but you eliminate brushstrokes and it\'s easier to blend the paint. I usually use size 4-5 or the largest brush possible (not only on horses either :flip: )

Hope that helps :)

Personally I wouldn\'t stick with GWs colors. I know the Orks took all the black horses, and beyond that I\'m not sure color is described much, but it seems as though the more important you were, the lighter colored horse you rode and Eomir is in the king\'s family so I\'d put him on a gray or a palomino. Here is a good source for horse color options:

Wow! What a cool resource!!!!!! This could reallly come in handy. Thanks, Vince. Where DO you guys find this stuff?

I tried to find out what Eomer\'s horse looked like recently. Short of actually going to the theatre again, after many books and such this is what I came up with.

The actual horse photos I eventually used as a reference was from an auction! Except for the dapples this is pretty close to his horse. (I think!! ???)

Vince is right too. I think the royal family seems to have grey or white horses.

Input from people who saw Two Towers 300 times would be much appreciated on this topic.:D

Um... Didn\'t see the movie 300 times, but I did read the books somewhere close to that. Does that count?

Angela and Vince are right. While the pure black horses where held in high esteem, they\'d all been stolen by either Isengard or Mordor. Shadowfax, the horse that Gandolf rode, was considered the nearly ideal horse, a throw back to the archtype, and Shadowfax was white. Seemingly, the higher up you were, the lighter color the horse you rode.

And of course the king\'s horse was \"Graymane\" so I figured he was a light colored one.

p.s. Did you all know that the horse that played Shadowfax in the movie became too ill with melanoma to be used any longer. I haven\'t been able to find out if it\'s going to be the same horse in RotK since they did all the filming at once or if he was too sick at the end fo doing TTT
