Horus Heresy Novel Question

I am just about done with Fulgrim (pretty good stuff). Obviously the traitor primarchs believe that the Emperor abandoned them to ascend to godood, but do the books ever tell the real reason why the Emperor returned to Terra from leading the great crusade?

tbh i think the story might be in the hh artbooks...

basically by the time the emperor left back for terror he had discovered and walked the secret web ways of the eldar, when he was building his mighty imperial palace he had a gargantuan dungeon construced and inside it a massive portal into the webways was created. Large enough to allow titans to walk through, the Emperor dreamt of freeing man from his reliance on warp travel and astrotelepathy. Unfortuantly the portal and the passageway beyond required constant maintenance.
initially it required a small portion of the Emperors psychic might but as time went on the warp powers of Chaos grew and threaten to come forth on to Terra via the portal. The Emperor withdrew from the crusade to keep a constant vigil on the portal, he created a massive machine to channel his supreme psychic might into maintain the portal, aka \'The Golden Throne\'
When Horus attacked Terra he left the vigil to Malcador whilst he fought Horus. #
Of course the Emperor was mortally wounded and was brought back to the golden throne where Rogal Dorn forever encased him within the machine so he could forever keep back the monsters of the warp...

The end lol....

So he left the crusade to oversee that his new portal system would not be overrun with chaos powers... got it!

I forgot who Malcador was though...

I believe he was the Emperor\'s housemaid.
He made a fantastic coffee, and his home-made biscuits were loved by all.

That and he was Imperial regent - Whilst the Emp was doing his stuff in the warp, he was put in command.

That\'s why all the other primarchs made excuses to to stay on the crusade.

how official is that last bit? last thing i read said that the dying emperor drew up teh plans for the golden throne to keep himself alive

as far as i know its all up in the air, the only concrete fact i know of is that he returned to brak into the webway, and either had a problem or never had the time to exploit it before Horus became \"unagreeable\"

All the good stuff you need is in the Horus Heresy: Collected Visions book. It\'s a fairly pricey tome, and quite a lot of the artwork is fairly dire, but mixed in are some gorgeous pieces, along with some great story.
